Also been working on interior.
In the end of the 80's, early 90's, "wilsonart" came out with a new non-flamable contact adhesive. I'm a cabinet maker by the way. They didn't do enough testing on this stuff. What happened is that over time (3-4 years) the glue was breaking down. We replace a lot of counters the were delaminating. Well, my boats interior was also done with this glue. The laminate was falling off everywere so it need to be redone also. This wasn't in the plan for this year but..... There was a spot were the battery was mounted were the floor was soft, pulled the carpet up and it smelt like battery acid. I think the original mount had been mounted with steel screws that had rotted off, letting the battery flop around. It had gone over and the acid got into the wood thru the holes and soaked the area. A little corner of the panel over the gas tank was soft also. I had to do it right, so inorder to get the gas tank panel out, the bulkhead had to come out. For that to come out, the cabinets had to come out. While they were out, I finished peeling the laminate that wasn't falling off and relaminated. Before |
