Default Convincor 270 vs. Convincor 251/253

The differences in hull design between an older 251 or 253 and the later 270 are obvious to the eye. But, what are the pros and cons of the 2 designs? I am assuming that the 270 is a bit better for hydrodynamics, but given that each hull would have equal power, how much does that equate to in mph?

You forgot to add the 259 in there also

i believe the 251 was the fastest of the hull designs. i am not sure where the rest rank.

the newer hulls are very much slower than the old 251.the 251 was thinner and very much a rough water boat.more than likely one of there best hulls!!the newer hulls are built for size alone in my opinion(after owning both)

When you look at the convinsor series I would agree. The 251 has the best profile for rough water. But this relates to a narrow beam also. The 270 just has the integrated swim platform. If HP is the same the 251 will always be faster then the 253,259 and 270. My 2 cents. Do I get any change ?

This is the answer I got from another site. Most of this answer is from Kip Coombs.

(( The 251 has an 89" beam compared to 103".
The 251 weighs 300 pounds less than the 270 also........ so i would say 3 to 4 MPH is a good guess. The 270 will handle ruff water much better though! Wider bottom and heavier! ))

I always thought the 270 was a faster hull. I stand corrected.

the 259 and 270 are the same checkmate just bolted on the plastic swim platform and added it to the total length.

my friend has a 251 with 400hp 454 carb 65mph best gps
i had 1999 259 convinsor 454 mag mpi stock best 67mph gps
whipple charger,single hyd str.28 & 30 bravo 1 79.8mph gps
we have tried lots of props ,259 rides very high inthe water & hard
251 rides high & bounces but will eat up the rough stuff much better ride
