222 stinger speed...
just went out for first time on Sunday...57 mph on gps... With
stock merc 260 & 21 pitch quicksilver stainless prop.. what kind of speed are you guys seeing with your 222's and what is your set up ? Thanks....... |
Re: 222 stinger speed...
That sounds about right from all the info i ave read and heard about them with the small blocks. The bigblock will break you into the mid 60's if its stock. I have never had mine on the water since i bought it with no engine or drive.....and once its done it will have about 420-450hp....so i dont know what its gonna be doing yet. People have said it should run it the high 70's with the right prop! :D

Re: 222 stinger speed...
that's cool.. I have a K&N flame arrestor, hydro motive cone and a set of EMI thunder manifolds to put on her I would like to see 60+mph will post results soon as I install all of it...good luck with yours ...Let us know how it runs...

Re: 222 stinger speed...
I have the 260, with a cam job and a few other minor things done (person i bought it from claimed 300hp, but i doubt it) and a 23 pitch ballistic prop. It runs 60 on gps with one person. Its an older engine, so i done run it wide open for more than a short period of time.

Re: 222 stinger speed...
Mine is for sale. I was planning on selling it at the end of the summer, but for the right offer, it could go now.
I would describe it as in good enough shape to use for the summer, but needs cosmetic work. Its an ongoing project for me. I'm having a new sunpad covered as we speak, and i am putting in rubber flooring this weekend. |
Re: 222 stinger speed...
I have an outboard model with a 2.4 Bridgeport not sure of the hp, but ran this weekend hit 53 with GPS. Still have not got the jack plate to work.

Re: 222 stinger speed...
I Have An 86 222 Stinger With A 468 Bbc At Sea Level (sacramento Got 74 Out It With 1/2 Tank Of Gas But The Hull Really Isnt Designed To Go Over That This Was On 3 Ft Chop Going Straight Into The Rollers ) Spinning A 21 Stainelss But I Still Have The Alpha Wouldnt Recomend Putting That Much Power Behind The Boat It Can Be Very Unpredictable At Those Speeds But A Very Fun Boat Proud Owner

Re: 222 stinger speed...
I have a 1986 222 Stinger that's been out of the water (garaged) for several years. I spun the couple with the last engine that I had (400ci SB .030 over fairly built). Boat was fast. Boat does not have an engine in it. Have all the parts, Alpha drive with nosecone, Hydromotive 15x25 prop, block, crank, rod, pistons, etc. Will need to put together. If interested, email me at [email protected]
Boat is located in Va Beach, VA |
Re: 222 stinger speed...
BTW, boat was really slow getting on plane with the 25 pitch prop, but would pull to over 5K and an indicated mid seventies on the VDO gauges. Boat was a handfull at that speed. Chine walked and vague steering, So IMHO, hull doesn't do well at speed.

Re: 222 stinger speed...
I "had" a 202 with 400 SB 430 Hp @ 6,400 rpm would go 78 mph and anything above 65 was a near death experience - Boating mag years ago reported this as the worst handling boat ever........three seat across - I had fun -
|
Re: 222 stinger speed...
I had the only 1986 outboard 222 Stinger made. 300 GT Johnson would run 70 mph. You would have to drive it thru the chine walking.

Re: 222 stinger speed...
they made only one in 1986 or only one 222 with an outboard??? i could have sworn ive seen more then one 222 in the past with an outboard on it....
|
Re: 222 stinger speed...
Only one outboard version in 1986, they made some in prior years and didn't want to build mine, offered me an 454 I/O version.

stinger
Ok They only made the Stinger 202 and the 222 in 86 and 87... they where only made for 2yrs .....

222 stinger speed
I've had a Stinger 222 since '91 ... 1987 454 Magnum (which was 330 HP that year) with Alpha 1 ... I tried every prop you can think of. Best was the Rev4 21" which ran 63 - 65 .. actually saw 67 one perfect day into the wind. But I also modified the bottom and took out the wedges on the step transom and added 16" Bennett Sport Tabs (doubble rams) just inside and under the swim platforms. These seriously helped the heavy stern when trying to get on plane with the added effect with the tabs being closer to center line than usual was like an extension to the waterline which makes the boat set better.
I just refreshed the motor which is a Crusader 350 (454 w 350 HP) and added some performance upgrades : Edelbrock marine 750 carb, Edelbrock Marine Performer Manifold ( low end torque for out of the hole) and roller tip rockers. looking for advice on after market exhaust. looks like EMI Thunder are a good choice. How about Lightning headers ... anyone have any experience with bolting them up with the engine compartment walls? Finishing up some stern damage repair .. reinstalling the motor ... and hope to be back on the water this year!

I saw a 222 in Annapolis with a 750 HP Blower motor sticking through the engine hatch with the wedges shaved off the step transom with the largest Kiekaufer Tabs you've seen 26" - 28" (?) ..that ran 92 MPH and handled pretty well ... did I ride in it .. No .. not enough length boat for that speed.
