Can anyone tell me what the stock prop was on a 1983 Chris Craft Scorpion 23'?

Thanks,

Dave

I doubt you're going to get a 100% correct answer.

However, knowing the motor/drive combo would help, as far as giving a guesstimate.

Forgot all about those details.

Motor is a 350 and the outdrive is an Alpha.

Thanks for any help!

I had a 230 and it ran best with a 14 x 19. I tried a 21 on it but it was very lazy getting out of the water.
These 230's (I hope yours is the same as mine?) are centre type mount engines which makes them a great ski boat. They jump out of the water easily as the engine is mounted a bit farther forward than a rear mount like a 210 or 260 etc.

They are a good balanced boat and you should cruise fine with that 14 x 19 pitch

My 260 which I still have presently will do about 58 downhill with a tailwind. I had it at 60 once but can't seem to find the right trim and conditions to get it again so I'll say 58

My Stinger 390X will cruise along at just around 62 and that is pushing the big blocks to the limit with the heavy boat. I am running stock 420's with naturally exhaspirated carbs at about 35 gph at wot. I usually just cruise at around 3100-3300 to keep the four barrels from opening and she scoots along very nicely at about 40mph or so and not so hard on fuel.

I think the Ski Jack was the model that had a forward mounted engine. My family and I have 3 230 scorpions and they all have the standard motor mount set up. My stock 350 ran a 19 or a 21 depending on what load I had in it and such.My Brother runs a 17 and is content with it ,but it tops out in the low to mid 40MPH range.I could get 51 with a 19 at WOT and very little on board .

Unhappy Chris Craft Scorpion 230

Hello

I repowered a scorpion 230 (Year build 1979 - first registered 1980) with a 350 ci MPI with 325 HP, but only had once time to drive it - therefore a longtime. the engine has a max WOT of 4200-5000 (reading out of the manual of the engine)

when running i had to drive it 140 seemiles to another place.

it only run 32kts max, i was cruising 15-20kts, and needed a lot of gas (13 gall per hour / 50 liters per hour), ok the weather was horrible, wind between 0 and 4 bf, and well that was not the ideal weather for such trips, i know.... but i figured out, that the boat handles big waves really good if the trim tabs pushes it down)

when getting it out of the water, a guy asked me why i have such an small prop on it, because the new engine seems to powerfull for that one. he asked me about how it was accelerating (if i put the level all the way forward, the rpm goes to almost the highes rpm, and short after it is near the limiter) and he told me that this prop has to much slip, and i should look for another one.

the boat has a total new alpha one gen 1 on it and a prop, which infos i lost :-(, but i try to get the info via telephone again.

normally there was a 350 ci 260HP Carb Engine inside.

so now i want to know, which prop i should try and test.

what do you think about high five with these special holes in it?

also write me which real speed (gps in kts) yours are driving.
some of you here write in mph which are calculated div with 1.1625 to kts, or are you telling MPH is seemilesPH?

bye
marco

ps: i am also thinking about a website that holds just scropion and stingers, pictures, videos and infos about locations about the holder, location, etc and additional informations about all the boats. tell me what you think about that idea.
