Stinger 222 - Seat Removal
#11
No pics to show but I'm making progress...
All three flip-up's are remade. Some of the vinyl at the pivots was a little worse for wear, but I made do. I made the boxes a little stronger (and a little heavier), and then saturated them in resin. I reused the foam along with some extra in thin places (on the bottom and sides), and then wrapped and sealed the foam in plastic. It should last quite a bit longer than the original stuff.
I have new wood for the equipment/seat supports as well as the equipment locker pad. I took the locker pad apart this evening (finished about 10 minutes ago), and I'll cut wood, epoxy, and remake tomorrow morning.
The only pieces that I'm concerned about are the uprights between the seats. They are pretty weak in spots and I thought about just fixing the bad parts, but now I might redo the entire things. Might as well not half-ass it.
I was hoping to go out with the family tomorrow, but I guess I'll be stuck on land until the work is done.

Thanks Wayne!
I took the Mrs. and the kids out to dinner, and then came home and got sick. I guess I'm supposed to take a break. Lovely.
I got smart and bought an electric staple gun... let's see if I can burn through another thousand stainless staples! I cannot believe that I've used that many!
So... I've remade both bolster separators (ice boxes/glove boxes, drink holders, lower equipment cubbies), epoxied both, and reupholstered one of the two with new foam and plastic. The other one is awaiting the foam and plastic along with the cover. I have reused all of the existing vinyl since it was in good shape. When I finally install them in the cockpit, the screws will all be sealed with 3M 4200. These pieces should outlast the boat at this point.
The last pieces left to take care of after the above will be the equipment locker cover, and the seat back/engine compartment panels. These pieces will be epoxied, of course, and will be covered with new carpet.
If I have enough carpet left, I'll have it bound on the edges and make a snap in carpet for the cockpit.
Good luck with yours John!

Thanks mate, you too!
Can't wait to see the pics of it all!
I had enough trouble just re-doing the center section cover. I had my wife stitch up a new cover for me and I applied it over new foam on the stock frame. The brackets are a cow! I used a mile of staples too. My hand hurt for days!
I should've know better though, there's greasy print all over the white vinyl now from changing the cam and intake again!
You live and learn!

Wayne (Hollowpoint) and I reinstalled everything last night. I have some adjustments to make, but with another two hours or so of work, she'll be ready to go again.
One thing I noticed... the seat assembly (center arm rests and rear storage compartment) act as structural members for the floor. There is no support under the floor between the outer stringers (there are no stringers under two thirds of the floor space... only a gas tank), so once the assembly is bolted in place, it acts as support from above for the floor. I thought that maybe my floor was going bad because of the amount of flexing it would do (especially just to the left of the driver's seat), but then I realized that the flexing was caused because the wood in the bottom of the arm rests was shot so nothing was holding it up. Anyway... interesting find!

Welcome!
Do a search. There are a few cockpit pics running around here that can give you an idea on what it was like.
Also, you can get quite a few pics just by entering "stinger 222" into Google and then searching images.

I'm trying to put together a collection of pics for our boats... basically it's going to be a library of graphics, mods, etc.
Can you send me as many detailed pictures as you can of your boat? I already have a lot of others that I've gotten through the web.
You can send them to zellto at hotmail.com.
Thanks!
