What engine and outdrive do you have in your Chris Craft Limited 245?
There is a youtube video of someone who got just over 70 MPH with a modified 496 Magnum: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxoz3-8Vfrk I have a 245 Limited I am restoring now. I am looking for some parts from a junked Limited. Do you know where I can get one for $100 like you? LOL |
I just test drove a 245 limited with a OMC 454 king cobra drive at 5000 RPM the boat only goes 40 mPH what can be wrong???????????????????

MAJOR PROP SLIP!!
That's excessive. What was the trim set at? |
I trimmed it up to the point of cavitiation then backed it down tap. Wierd right! Do you think the boat shoud be faster the engine doesnt skip a beat. I have no idea which prop is on it. Could the speed be all prop since the fact it runs great. Please help......

how old are these boats......... and were they run in the salt chuck for any length of time
rotten strigers and ozmosed glass adds 1 ton easy |
I have one that I have ran for a year and a half. It is a 7.5 (Ford, That's right!) with King Cobra 1.42 drive. It ran right around 52 with the factory electronics no matter what prop. I ran a 20 at 4400-4600 rpm and a 24 at around 3600-3800 rpm (to low). After upgrading to MSD dizzy and coil it picked up to 55 with the 20 still in the 52 range with the 24 and it seemed to come out of the water much better.
The thing is a tank. From what I can find the claimed weight is 4750lbs. Most similar size more modern boats run around 3600-3800lbs. I like mine. It crushes waves and rides nice. It could stand some more speed-----so. I have built a 521 with aluminum heads and plenty of goodies for this season. I broke the new motor in on muffs and then had to winterize it before I got it in the water. Man I can not wait until spring! |
