Default 1986 Chris Craft Scorpion

I bought an 86 scorpion that I am restoring. I am just wondering what you guys think the top speed of this boat might be when it is all done and what prop I should run. It has a fresh 454 375 HP motor and a alpha one. I also plan on removing the windshield, SS hardware, filling the holes, building a windscreen and painting it. I want just a nice clean streamlined look and to update it. It is my first Chris and have heard they ride real nice in the water. I was told that the stinger and the scorpion were differant boats but my buddy has a 86 230 stinger and it looks like the same boat hull design and everything. The only differance I see is the interior. Any insight would be great. THANK YOU

I have an 87' Scorpion. I ran a 14 1/2"x 21" fourblade OMC offshore prop and was running upper sixties with a mild 400 smallblock (similer power level)

I believe that the Stinger boats were an evolution of the Scorpions - certainly in the earlier years, they look a lot a like. In fact, in the brochures, some of the earlier Stingers have Scorpion badges on them. For the most part, the Stingers from 26' on up had two engines, the 202 and 222 had single engines of course. I think the 230 XL Stinger is an anomaly - it has a single engine, and has the cockpit layout of a Scorpion. In fact, the few I've seen have Scorpion badges - one of them has a large Stinger sticker on the side. Not sure why this was - would like to talk to someone from the Murray Chris-Craft era to get the history on this.

Check out my site: www.chriscraftstingers.com - has a lot of info on Stingers including specs, history, etc.

Han.

Hi. I owned a 260 Scorpion for many years and still own a 390x presently

The difference between a "Stinger" and a Scorpion Stinger" is the deck height. My boat had a raised deck so I had a bit more headroom in the cuddy. I also has the word "SCORPION" down both sides of the boat. I also had four vents (two per side) on the hull. My buddy has a Stinger (not a Scorpion) over in Hamilton and his deck is flat which makes for a smaller headroom in the cuddy (duck!!!) He has no side vents but does have the square deck hatch like mine as well on the top centre of the upper deck
His boat is practically the same as mine except for these minor details I mentioned.
