My fuel gauge on my 1990 245 LTD works... Not so much.
My experience with water craft, tells me it's usually the sensor, not the gauge.
I found what I think is the sensor, which is under a hatch under the rear most seat.
My question is, how do I find this part before I take it apart?
On all my sea-doo craft, BRP has a web site listing all parts, all diagrams, going back to 96....
But boats are a bit more custom.
I found, under another hatch, it's a 71 gallon tank. And it has a model number I think.
Any ideas? Should I just remove the current one and see if it has a model # on it?
I assume I vent the tank (remove cap) before removing the sensor.
The sensor appears to have 2 wires going it it. Black and red. Or is this a fuel pump?

the senders you can get from any marine parts store they are universal for the most part you match it up to the original one and cut the new one to length. should be 2 wires if you take them and cross them the gauge should max out tanks are vented already so no need to remove the cap. fuel pump is on the engine

that's what these things look like?!
I like the SEA-DOO design much more... this just looks like it's ready to break off...

I get it! so the fuel level sensor... is always the same for it's reading... you adjust the 'throw' of the device based on the length of the arm, which is based on the depth of the tank! I get it... that way they can all be the 'same' in terms of sensing / gauges... I get it now... that's why there's 2 wires and jumping them should show a full tank. no resistance = full tank.
I will play with my setup at home tonight and see if I can get it to register properly before removing the old one. then I'll measure the depth to make sure I buy one of the right size.
thanks

well, I got the sender out. However apparently, while on the trailer, the boat sits tilted to the back... which means I dumped about 5 gallons of fuel out of the tank and into the boat and out the back. Good times. I lowered the front of the boat, and got the sender out, measured everything, checked it over, and put it back on (to prevent any unnecessary fuel related explosions).
I order a whole new one. It looked like it still worked, but that the float was all soaked and beat up, but at almost 25 years old, and rusted looking, and $35ish for a new one... why bother?
New one ordered - free ship - should be here in like a week or so. Mean time the hatch to the engine is open and the ceiling fans are on... and my hands will smell like gas for at least 3 days....
I did test the gauge by shorting out the wires, it jumps to full like it's brand new, so I'm going to assume that works just fine.
