I had an 84 with 260's. loved that boat, absolutely loved it. just did everything right plus it was very big for a 26 footer.
|
very nice!
She is not as large as I had wanted, but the price was great and most likely the only one I will be able to manage. I hope to post pics when allowed.. |
My dock neighbor was a 30 Scarab Panther and my 260 had tons more room all the way around. Bigger bilge, cabin, cockpit, and nearly as long to. I had so much fun with that boat, you will enjoy it. One of the things i like was the simplicity of the small blocks and Alphas, they just work in that package.

Good information.
This is the kind of feedback is what I love to hear. Mine has the teak platform, not the fiberglass. That changes a bit on the visual, and I am sure it's a bit lighter too. |
the fiberglass platform i had gave the boat a fantastic sound. I dumped the exhaust inside the platform and it resonated in there pretty good. For just lil 'ol smally blocks i sure got asked "whats in it" a lot lol. Purely not my intention as i was fine with light power in that boat but ultimately i think that exhaust sound is what sold the boat. This guy hounded all one summer every time a ran across him out at the docks or where ever. He made an offer i couldnt refuse, traded me straight up for his 34' Scarab III, pretty good deal.

The SCARAB sounds nice. I would love to see pics.
I hear the engines have a great sound, but will not hear them until spring. My friend did the deal and got to hear them, before they were winterized. I wish we could post pics here. I am not sure if this will work, but ... lets see. http://i.imgur.com/GGj6kcy.jpg |

now you are just awesome.... I wondered what I did wrong...
|
You had her, you just need to post that link in the right place.
See the little box with the tree in it, click it. A pop up box comes up. Put link in it, click ok. Presto!!!! :drink: |
|
I have a compass just like yours. Broken. Lol
|
Lol. This one works just needs a new dome.
|
Mine is cracked too, all the stinky juice comes out of it when I'm running her. I need to get a new one.

Oh crap wrong forum!!!!
Lol |
Wow.... Game-on....lol
Can you repair the compass yourself, or is this something best left to the pros? The girlfriend/wife parts I will stay out of ... For now. |
If the compasses are made by Ritchie, just send them back for a complete rebuild. A lot cheaper than buying new.
|
I have dropped them a line. They claim to have a flat rate price to fix them, so....lets see.

I forget the name on the one in my cig, for some reason I don't think it's a Ritchie. I could be wrong. It has like a 7 inch screw circle. I'll look this weekend. I need to get by storage anyways.

Here is what I just received:
Hello James, We have not manufactured the FN-44 since 1984. We no longer repair or have parts available at our factory. One of our service stations, Viking Instruments 781-585-2100 or [email protected] does still repair these compasses. They specialize in restoring antique or discontinued compasses. Not just ours but most compass companies products. They may be able to help you with a repair. The closest replacements we manufacture are our Navigator series flush mounts (FN-201, FN-203). You can look at current Navigator compasses on our website www.ritchienavigation.com under Research Compasses, Navigators. New Ritchie compasses come with a 5 year warranty. Regards, Cristin Service Department |
Sounds like I'm in the same boat. Lol
|
I will let you know what the other company says ..
I need to verify which model compass I have. this is the only pic I have and the boat is still sitting 3-1/2 hours away. even if I found a donor compass, I am not sure I could do the parts swap. http://i.imgur.com/RUgVC3m.jpg |
If you are interested, I have one of those compasses for sale here: http://chriscraftstingers.com/parts.html.
|
I will keep it in mind ... I need to make sure that is what I have... I am sure but ...
|
This is what I got from Viking Instruments 781-585-2100 or [email protected]
The standard overhaul of the FN-44 compass is $158.00, that includes a new clear dome, gaskets, oil, mounting gasket, repainting and complete cleaning, and a two year warranty, your compass will look and be like new. Any replacement parts to the lighting and return shipping are extra. If you send your compass to us be sure to pack it well and include a daytime telephone number so we may contact you as soon as it arrives. |
What about this?
Please post some pics. I love that boat I am trying to restore a similar one. |
|
I have a couple of questions...
1 the Speed-O says 60 ... I gather the top speed is around 50-60mph ...what is the typical cruising (on plane speed for these boats? 2 with the twin engines about how many hours of cruising do you guys get on average? I know wind water conditions and every boat will vary. I just am looking for a feel for what you guys have gotten with yours. 2 hours vs. 10 hours is a big difference |

My Stinger runs 57, and cruises at 40. Bone stock 260's |
how large is your tank and about how many hours can you run on a tank?
|
136 gallons.
No clue on how many hours per tank - but a ROUGH guess is 22-24 gallons per hour @ 40 based on poker runs...which is never a steady cruise speed. |
she's a nice looking ride (far better shape than mine.
looks to be mid to late eighty's(?) That looks to be in the ballpark, my guestimates have been based on. 4-6 hours of play time. |

Han Tunca's website www.chriscraftstingers.com has a wealth of information.
Great website. |
I have been there, and exchanged emails with him.
Sadly my boat though a Stinger style is not allowed because of the lacking of badging. Mine was born just before the stinger name .. Although the Excalibers are included. Non the less it is a great website |
