The plexiglass attaches to a piece of angled aluminum. The aluminum bolts to the cowling and covers the holes from those nasty useless flaps.

The purpose of the vinyl covered padding is to clean up the appearance of the back of the aluminum and blend with the cowling pad. It has no other function.

I should be finished with mine after this weekend I am trying a few different size plastic s to see wich one works best. When I am done I will sell them as a complete replacement for the fold up wind deflectors.

Here is a thought:
What about mounting the windscreen to the folding wind deflectors.
Easy to attach
No cover mods needed
would still look "original"
Should do the same job
Would be VERY inexpensive to do.

All that said,
I am still wanting to add either factory type, or something.

Ptufaro: I am interested to see what you come up with.

How much better is the new style wind deflector than the flaps? I know the flaps are not very effective, but would like to know if there is a substancial difference to justify the cost.

I put the windshield on my 30' mystique it made a world of difference. You can drink (non alcoholic beverage) while you drive, talk to the person next to you, (without yelling at them) & you can see much better without the flaps. It made my ride much more enjoyable. I made my own windshield & plan on making a couple more for anyone who wants one. Price is undetermined, but it will be much less than Cigarette's $1750.00.

I went 8" om the sides & 9" in the center. My windshield is not completely done, I have some pics but they are too large to post here. If you want to see them I will e-mail them to you, meanwhile I will work on some pics that will fit on this site.
