Very nice 38' flatdeck
http://www.offshoreonly.com/esvon/page-6601.html
I'm drooling all over my keyboard looking at this flat deck. Go to the owners website link. There is a large file of pictures. ed |
Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
Yep, I was looking at it the other day. I just sold my Cig and if that one had a sunpad it would be on my short list.
|
Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
That is nice.
Once again, If I only had the cash. I find myself saying that alot these days. I like the turn down exhaust, but looks like a B!tch to keep clean. How difficult is it to find props for #5's? |
Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
Looks cool, what is up with the scoops, they look like they are pointing to the port side, or is that an illusion.
Wild |
Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
i noticed the same thing
|
Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
Very nice flat deck and extremely clean. Love that paint job. :D
|
Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
WOW! That is the nicest flat deck I've ever seen! I noticed the scoops thing too. 130k for an '84 boat? Everythings relevant I guess.
|
Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
Nice boat. A little too nice for me.
What about the cutout on the transum? I see this on the newer boats. Did the owner make that cut? Is it for speed? Handling? Or what? |
Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
Thanks for all the nice comments. I realize that it is a lot of money for a 1984 Cigarette, but the power and the drives along with the overall condition of the boat make it, in my opinion, a steal. I have over 200K into the boat, and I don't believe that you can reproduce one like it for $129900.
I still have the original sunpad/hatch for the boat that would go with it, if the new owner wishes it. The obvious problem is that it won't "fit" with the blowers. Props for #5's are the same as for a #6, they just use a smaller plastic sleve in the non-splined end. If you look at the orientation of the carbs on the PSI's, you will see that they are not in a straight line, hense the angled scoops. I wanted to keep the bottom of the scoops close to the flame arrestors, and it is also conversation topic. The transom has a notch built into it that was not on the original 1984 boat. I had that done, with the assistance of Neil @ Cigarette, several years ago, before I put the box's on. With the Stelling's box's it is probably redundant. I could probably take the box's off and put the drives back on the transom and have the same result. Please pass the word out among your friends about my boat, any help selling would be greatly appreciated. If I can help any othe Cigarette with anything on their boat, I would be happy to. I've done everything on this boat and have had it completely apart, so I know it inside and out. G.K. |
Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
$200 K into the boat.
$130 K to sell. -$70 K = profit. This is pretty good boating math. If you put into the equation: Classic X Fun = Y/$ : CONCLUSION= Value Bargain. :D :D Damn! I'm either Einstein of boat math, or an Idiot Savant. I'm guessing the latter of the two. :D Sweet boat. I'd buy it, but I don't like the steering wheel. Only thing holding me back from cutting the check. :D Just Kidding, good luck in the sale, it truly is a classic. |
Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
What size props are you turning with 1100hp ?
|
Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
AWSOME 38, gota love big power and big drives. Steve
|
Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
The props are 17.5x31 lab finished 4 bbl.
The drives are 1.5 ratio #5's. The motors made 1108 hp. with some really mild street roller mechanical Crane cams and 7.5:1 compression ratio. I realize that I probably gave up 150-200 hp. by not having more radical cams and a higher comp. ratio, but I wanted to stay on the safe side as I normally run 92 octane fuel and switch to half 92 with 110 race gas when I want to switch blower pulleys to run more boost. G.K. |
Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
Nice Cig! A proven"wave crusher" built in the days when races were run in the Ocean no matter what the conditions were and no one took any prisoners! Super!
|
Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
I am sure that boat was leaving Key West next to me in the Nov 03 Poker Run. Love that paint job, it sounded great, and was not next to me for long. <gg>
|
Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
Great boat!!!! I have some photos of ( i believe this boat ) from the SBYC poker run a few years back. I think Washington Island lunch stop. Nicest Flatdeck I have seen!!!!!!
|
Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
Thats the one. I went to that poker run probably 4-5 times and always had a great time (except the year it rained like hell).
Thanks for the nice comment. See you @ LOTO this year? |

G.K. Not trying to rain on your parade or disrespect your boat in any way, but there have been many very nice flat decks on here through the years and for some reason, they just don't seem to sell.  Maybe it's just older boats that people are afraid of. Good luck with the sale, if you have an abundance of people who show interest, I have an '88 Top Gun that had over $300K (1200 quad rotors, #6 dry sumps, Dave Hunter paint, new interior, new trailer) dumped into it (not by me) that I would sell in a heartbeat for $130K. |
Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
Post #9 will answer your question as to why the scoops are angled to the port side.
Why are you selling the quad rotor set-up's? Why don't you private message me. G.K. |

Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
i thought that I saw this boat on another website and if it is the same boat. it was indicated as sold. Did you call the buyer?
|
Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
Gary if you sell you boat I may bee the only Cig in town :evilb: :evilb:
So what's are you looking at next?? Good locu selling Don |
Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
hope that buys another
|
Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
If it sells, I will probably buy a 50' Sea Ray and go cruising the Great Lakes with my wife. When we got married I had a 43' Wellcraft Portofino that we both loved to go boating on.
She is not much of a perf. boater and would prefer to do a little slow cruising. It's going to be hard to get rid of the Cig. as I've had it almost 10 years and have almost every screw etc. out of it and know everything about it. We will see. G.K. |
Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
Old school, what's the name of your Cig? Sounds like a nice race package, there was a Cig in the east that was basically a race boat that sounds similiar. Motors sound kinda neat unless they are Big Chief uppers, then you probably need a bank roll to keep it running. If it is in the classifieds it will no doubt sell in no time as it seems to be a steal!

Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
Question: Whats up with the exhaust ? Never anything like that before. Looks like it may be switchable to exit under water vs straight out ?
BTW,Beautiful boat :D |

Something from Gibson ? BTW,Beautiful boat :D |
Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
That is correct. When they started cracking down on noise, I had to route the exhaust underwater. I removed the mufflers and added the 4" "down tubes" to help the noise issue. There was still a little exhaust that leaked past the butterflies, in the mufflers, so I you capped the mufflers completely, as shown on several of the pictures on the companies website for my ad in the classifieds. That modification took care of the noise problem and I've since been tested @ 78dbl's @ idle with that configuration.

Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
Hey guys,
This boat is just incredible. Met RPM yesterday, he's docked near me out here at LOTO. All business baby!!!! I really love the old school look. All that new funky stuff with pirates and skulls do nothing for me. Give me a badass old wave crushing monster anyday!!!! I feel that it's a deal at that price. Yes, its pricey for a 1984 boat, but its built with nothing but the best with no expense spared. A new Cig will depreciate more than the asking price of this boat as soon as you pull out of the dealers yard  :drink: If I had the extra bread, this boat would be mine! Kurt |
Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
I saw this boat this weekend at the Shootout as well. It's damn nice.
|
Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
I also saw this work of art at loto. Quite a piece of art. I like the amount of detail this person has invested in this boat. I wish i could afford the upkeep on a boat like this. There is a nice cig in the CPC group that looks like this one and i know it is taken care of very well, but id have to give the kudos to this guys . I dont own a cig. i just came on here to see if i could find the asking price. Super nice boat. Maybe Someday!

Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
I have known this boat for 3 years. Gary keeps this boat in top shape. It has the attention to detail that all of us dream about. The mechanics of it are tough and hold up. Nothing hacked together on this one. It will make someone a great boat and a crowd pleaser.

Re: Very nice 38' flatdeck
Does anyone have pictures of this boat in the water?
