The best running 42' in my opinion are the none stepped cover girl 1/2 cabin Tigers. 500HP's and bravo will put you in the mid 70's all day. Much better ride in the rough stuff too.

A non step 38 1998-early2000 are lighter than the earlier T/G's and run well with 500HP's mid 70's with a full cabin. Still handle well in the rough stuff.

The T/S boats are a little more unstable due to the steps being so big and forward on the CG. Not as turn and rough water friendly.

Just my $.02

Have to disagree with the comments on the T/S. My buddy has a Tiger with 1000's and 6's and I had a T/S Gun with 500's. The Tiger is definitely a wave crusher but I felt my Gun was just as capable in the rough. The Gun actually flew a little flater when it got out of the water than the Tiger does. The only wierd feeling I ever got in the gun was boat wake hitting it from the side. I would rock a little from side to side, but never felt unstable.

Rough water is a great equalizer regarding power, in that stuff any advantages in lenght helps.

Re: 38 GUN vs 42 TIGER?

The Tiger was designed for 500HP's and Bravos and a half cabin.

The CG really changes with fuls cabins and #6's and blower motors. Not to say that they aren't good boats but theyare outside the scope of the original design. Things may have changed since they T/S was introduced.

I also agree that the T/G is as good a rough water boat as the Tiger, but the extra length does make a differnence.
