I have a 1972 Cig 20 that I am restoring.

I always wondered if you could fit a BBC in a Cig 20 with the old style "Flat" engine hatch.

How much clearance do you have?

How fast is your boat?

Thanks.

Air Dog:

I clear the BBC with the flat hatch just fine - with an Edelbrock Performer intake and a Holley 4150 850CFM on a 1" spacer with a Gaffrig flame arrestor. Never actually measured it to see, but it closes and doesn't touch.

Keep in mind that my engine sits lower because of the jetdrive, the stringers have been modified to accomodate this setup. A BBC in a sterndrive application would more than likely require the installation of a scoop.

If you want a boat that is already complete, I'm toying with the idea of selling mine. I'm seeing high 60's with the current setup.

Good luck with your project, keep us updated with photos!

Thanks for the info. I like the flat hatch look, so hopefully it will clear.

I have a Bravo drive for it. Going to loose the foot pedal. Do you still run yours?

Boat is in storage. Restoration will begin next winter.

Gotta sell one of my other two boats first.

I think you will have to use this kind hatch with a BBC because of the clearance. This was the hatch I had on mine with the BBC when I got it.

Air Dog, I also restored a 72 20 ft'r. What engine/ drive is in it now? I kept mine pretty much original with the 350/320 chvy and 270 volvo drive. I get 60 GPS. Do you have any pics of it?

Back to the post..............whay address can I use for mapquest? Would like to go to this event this year :evilb: . Will be coming from NY.

Thanks for the replies guys and OSG Rick, I will give you a call this week.

As for my Cig, it is a 1972, (one of the original three made), I have everything but an engine.

I was planning on a high power small block, but my friend who I will be getting the engine from is trying to convince me to go with the BBC.

Any thoughts?

It had a Volvo originally, but the transom has been changed to fit a the new Bravo I drive I have.

My only concern is I want to keep the flat rear hatch and also be able to run the exhaust through the prop about 1/2 the time. With a 425hp small block I won't be able to because of the cam.

Was the bump on the rear hatch becuase of the TRS drive and the higher engine mounting required?

I think my bravo drive mounts lower than a TRS would.

I don't have a pic right now, but it I think this ad from 1972 is my boat.

Originally it was black. I was able to track down the origninal owner of the boat who bought it new. He then painted it red and white.

Dog, don't know if you will get a big block in without the bubble hatch. My hatch is about 2 inches from the air filter.
