Tres,

What is your opinion. I have a 1998 top gun full cabin. I am going from bravos to 16" boxes with xr's. Will this create a porpoising problem or relieve it? Give me any ideas or opinions.

I installed boxes on a few 98s. I modified the bottom to correct the hop. All Cigs after early 90s had some hop to them because of a mold repair that was done at the factory. If you ask most TG owners they will tell you they need tab more than expected to stop the action or if you used Hydromotive props it took away the hop. Since boxes are going to move the CG back, you will more than likely introduce more action. The steps taken to alter the bottom are not hard nor expensive. In fact you should pick up a MPH from just that alone since most guns need alittle more High Psi at the rear.I did a 98 with 565 HP with stelling boxes and rear mods that would see 82 MPH.

Tres fixed my 98 Top Gun and it rode much better, I have had boxes on a few of mine and they definately rode much better. Spend the few extra dollars to have it set up properly, even if you don't get more speed, it will ride much better, especially in rough water.

Tres,
My 90 Top Gun Carbon with full cabin and twin 800hp with
Bravo drive and stock x dim has absolutely no problem with
hop or porpoising. The only problem is lifting the bow, now
I drive with Bravo I 32" and I'm wondering if extension boxes
would help for more trim level and more bow lifting.
Now, I can't trim enough to get the bow high!
Or should I modify the rear strakes for a higher bow level?
Any ideas?

Are you running shorties? a TG not carrying the bow? or High X. Boxes will help you leverage the bow no doubt. If not please install a 1 inch spacer in the drive for starters, and check the bottom for any severe hooks.

Tres,
no I'm running stock Bravo drives 1.5. I tried IMCO 2" shorties
but loosed 4mph top end.
With the stock Bravo drive lenght and stock x dim, I have
to trim the boat to 7or8 on the gauge for best top speed.
Top speed in fresh water is 84mph.

Tres, Did you do any bottom work on this this 2000 TG. It has a sticker from Martin Marine on the back by the drives. It also has Stelling Boxes and Bravos Drives and the bottom is very straight.

So how did it do, adding the boxes and the blowers. Did it help the porpoising???

Tres rigged and set up my 2000 TG TS with Stelling boxes and fixed the bottom. It needed alot of work. Boat ran great. Not sure where that one ended up. It was all white when it left FL it had 500HP efis in it. I think it went to CA.
