42 x with big power
I am considering an 04 or newer Cigarette 42ts or 42x, with big power 1050 to 1075s w dry-sump 6s for the Chesapeake Bay.
Does anyone have any experience with the newer 42 Cigarette's as to actual cruise speeds, top speeds as well as overall ride and handling ? Thanks in advance! |

Re: 42 x with big power
Buy the X, not the Tiger... Or, buy a 46.
You might want to check out the classifieds. There's an '03 46'er in Austin, TX that's for sale w/ 1050 Sterlings --- VERY nice boat and he is motivated to sell it. Don't pay too much attn. to the listed price. As with anything... there's negotiation room that should get you near or under the 42X prices. www.danjmccarthy.com ---- website showing the boat. P.S. Mike, the owner, is a great guy.... only 40 hrs. on the boat since new. Majority is all fresh water. |
Re: 42 x with big power
If you want to jump up to a 46 RR let me know, my buddy has American Muscle for sale. The 1075's were just at Mercury getting rebuilt. They have 0 hrs and full 90 day warranty. He is ready to deal! PM me if your interested.
On the 42X, another friend has one (Blue 42X Powerboat) and he loves it. It has 850 Mercs. and runs 106-107 on Herrings. |
Re: 42 x with big power
Well, WW, what's the deal'eo???? Finding anything?
Pier 57 just took in a really nice 42 w/ 900's. I hear they're really willing to deal on this boat. I believe the owner is building/buying a 46. Joe |

Joe Thanks guy's for the response, I am weighing my options as to what I really want. I will be replacing my Cat and Gun with one stand up bolster V that my family will enjoy just like the Gun, but the boys can still rip it up as we do on my Cat. I really like the looks of the 42X and a 42' will fit right into my hydro lift , so a 46 is just to much boat for my situation. I am also looking at the stand up bolster OL 42 and Fountain 42 as I would like to be capable of running closer to my Cats speed if possible. I'ts a tuff situation when your wife plane hates the Cat at any speed! |

Re: 42 x with big power
I know it is the F word but Bill from Team Taboo has a pleasure version 42 Lightning with 1075's that hit over 130 with Reggie at the wheel. That is why they are known as Cat Killers!

Is it still the Talon and what does she hate about it? Wind, noise, speed, lack of amenities, etc? But as in most open sit down rides over 100 the back seats become a wind tunnel . I don't expect any pleasure big power Vs to all out run with my Cat top speed wise, but I am looking for a"safe" stable 120 top speed and an 85 to 95mph cruise speed if possible. I may be looking for something that doesn't exist, I plan on going to the Miami boat show, maybe I can get better educated as to what I should expect from these different boats! |

Re: 42 x with big power
What about the 42XP? Being that it was pre-42X and is not staggered is the attitude of the boat much different? Is the 42XP the same bottom as a 42X? How many were built?
|
Re: 42 x with big power
WildWarior, I have both boats you're talking about....well kinda, I have a 377 Talon and an OL Quadstep w/twin 1000's . If you're looking to replace the cat because of the wind tunnel in the back seat over 100, i don't think the V is any better. My 37 OL Quadstep has as much wind in the back seats at 110mph as my 377 Talon has at 120mph, and as far as ride stability, forget it, the Talon has it hands down. Your wife will hate a V at high speed...chine walking at 110 is NOT fun. Maybe when you jump up to a 42 it might be different, but i think you'll be disappointed by the high speed ride when compared to the Talon, it has spoiled you.

Re: 42 x with big power
We had a 04 X 1050's. Good boat. We also ran a 46 1075's. Good boat as well.

That boat is beautiful. It was parked next to our 42X at SOTW along with American Muscle!! Where is that boat?! I saw it in a few ad's. |
Re: 42 x with big power
What Type Of Mph #'s Are You Seeing In That 42 W/ 1075 ?

Re: 42 x with big power
Enough 4 Play, The owner is fed up with tire kickers and wont waste his time taking dreamers for boat rides. Money talks Gary!! And you're way off.

Maybe that is why the owner of the one with 1075 is selling it because of the 105 mph I would have to agree with you. I would be embarrassed to. Rick OSG |

Re: 42 x with big power
Ok for all of you not wanting to associate a 42x with a 42 lightning lets even up the playing field. A new 47 lightning with 1075s and dry sixes. 117mph. enough said! with six person bolsters, gen, air and lots of comfort, and a new bottom design. That is more comparable to a 42x ciggy. Lake cumberland marine has the June 2006 powerboat mag cover boat in stock(I think its still 4sale?) It is by far one of the sickest fountains ever made. Same bottom as Rio Roses cat killer. Will blow the cusom paint right off of a 42x and the cabin has more hallways than a elementary school!

Re: 42 x with big power
Oh by the way Tazz Ive never been in a 42 or 47 at speed that has ever chinewalked. Wildwarrior the 42 or 47 lightnings will accomplish what you are looking for. Lots of speed which can't be denied by anyone on this board and lots of comfort. The 47 should go on your lift nicely as we all know it is only a 42ft boat. It is certainly worth researching. Good luck to you.

Re: 42 x with big power
Please! You race a boat long and hard enough somethings gonna break. How many Ciggys in oss/sbi: Ohhhhhhh! Joe I have been looking at the pics of your new Cig on here that thing is Sick!

Re: 42 x with big power
Not to bust things up, but for numbers our 42x ran at 112 with 1050 Sterlings.. We had to put mufflers in it and it dropped the top end to 104.
The 46 with 1075 and BIG OL wheels ran about 118. It's stister boat ran 125. With the right equipment you can get some bigger numbbers. But in a discussion with Skip at one point, you just run out of hull. |

I'll start thinking about that when someone at the gas station asks me "Is that one of those Fountain boats" :D :evilb: :drink: :evilb: ....and be honest, the 47' Fountain is smaller than a 42' anything!!!! :p |

Re: 42 x with big power
Waterboy38? Was that your job for the football team of the highschool you never graduated from? Maybe if you had your GED you could at least upgrade your membership to gold status instead of puting in writing that a particular brand of powerboat "sucks". That was a very juvenile response to a message that I posted in response to a guy on here just looking for options. I never once said that a Cigarette sucks. Did you here me knocking Joes new 39 unlimited? Absolutely not. Go back to the mainland and stay off the water until you can learn to swim with the rest of us!

Re: 42 x with big power
On our 42X, it ran 104 after we sent the pipes to Toronto to be muffled due to the local fuzz.
Our 46 ran 115 on Lake Cumberland. We bumped up the pitch which the boat was a slug out of the water. If you go check the boat. Which is for sale. The GPS tattletale shows the boat ran 118 "which I ran it too" and on the twin GPS Magellan's state the same. The boat was set up for top end running. Here is our 46 XP for sale. 46XP 2004 46 XP Sister boat for sale: 46 XP Sister boat Our 42X for sale : This boat ran 111.3 December 03 Boating Mag 2004 42X The 46 we have for sale is a good boat. You can call Randy, we are entertaining any offers. If you have any further questions, PM me or call. I know those two boats inside and out. |
