With asg's boat it was hit and repaired by Cigarette which made it better than new, but im sure that had a reason why it went for the price it did. Fountains are a production boat and the prices reflect that. They are priced well so they will sell lots of them. You cant compare the quality and the price of a Fountain to a Cig or OL. They are two totally different boats. Im not bashing Fountain here. Fountain builds a good boat, theres no doubt about that. In my opinion the 42 Hull is one of the best out there, especially for the money. It's just the quality doesnt come close to our Cig. It seems on here that Fountain owners think their boats are as good as Ol's. Yes you Fountain guys paid less money for a good solid production boat, but its not a custom boat as in an Ol or Cig. How many new Cig's or Ol's do you see with the same exact paint job?? Not many. Im mean theres 50 plus fountains with the exact same paint job, and thats just for one style. I agree on that all boats depreciate fast. But a Fountain for 220k then sell for 185k is after one year. Theres no way that if you buy a 500k Cig it sells for 300k the next year. Cigarette's are the legend that satrted this sport and people pay for the name and the quality of the product. Now I am probably going to get millions of responses by Fountain owners, so lets here them. 220k for will sell for 185...sounds about right. The 500k Cig will sell for... what? Maybe 400k-425k in a year. What boat has better resale value? Looks about the same to me. Buy the way, I'm a Fountain owner and my best buddy owns a Cig. Rigging wise, The Cigs wins hands down. Fit & finish,Cig all the way. Bottom enginering, Fountain. No doubt overall, the Cigs quality is superior. Dollar for Dollar, money lost from a new boat purchase, Cig is superior in that catagory also. :) |

The accident definitely figured into the time it took ASG's TopGun to sell...........especially after PB magazine ran an article about the worst crashes ever that had a full-page spread of ASG's 'Gun getting a Donzi injection.
I always said it should be worth MORE than other 'Guns, it had parts of TWO Aronow companies included........ |

Re: 2003 gladiator seems like a helluva deal !!
I do not think that most all the buyers of 38 and bigger Cig's or Fountains or OL's or Nortech's or MTI's or Skaters and so forth consider resale or the amount of money the boat will depreciate.
It's boating...people...the worst investment of hundreds of thousands of dollars...the black hole! However, if I would have just invested the money I have spent on boats and cars in the last 10 years I could retire...but...hey I've had a blast and what will it really matter when I'm dead and gone? |
