Re: 20' cigs, who has them?
yup..that's the one. :) It's really not that bad...but does need to be completely redone. There is a fair amount of glasswork that needs to be done to the deck, particularly the back seat...but the hull is solid with no repairs and rot free.
i cleaned it up and shrinwrapped it and will get to it after i sell the 16 Donzi project... my thought for the 20 is to do a mini Gladiator with a fiberglass fairing that will be removable if someone wants to put it back to original....in fact, all modifications will be made so that it can get back to orginal pretty easily... who knows...these things may be valuable one day as original pieces   :D power will more than likely be a stock mercury powerplant with bravo drive and i plan on keeping the side compartments in the bilge. drillin, do you have pics of yours? btw, check out cigarette20.com |
Re: 20' cigs, who has them?
I have checked it out great site and pics, I'll have pics tomorrow when I pick it up. Mine will be done all custom(no return to normal) like Ricks, his was the inspiration for it. I have my eye on a 525 whipple motor and ITS transom with xr. All of the pics i see of them riding they are way stern heavy, hopefully by putting the drive back about 8-10 more inches we can get a better cog while under way to help balance out the high hp. mine sat in a yard by the woods for 13 years and was covered but the transom is shot, which is fine as Dave wants to redo it and make it stronger. The ITS will keep the transom clean and it will have 280 tabs instead of the 380. Like Rick's there is no rush for it and I'm figuring a year to 18 months to have it done right. I'm also doing it on a budget and will buy the best stuff, but not break the bank all at once. Once it gets under way I'm sure dave will have a thread with pics either here or in the fiberglass section.

Offshoredrillin, I saw your post and had to comment. I am currently redoing a 1982 20 Cigarette with some of the same ideas you have. I just had the transom completely redone and moving to the bottom next to make sure it's straight and re-gelcoat. I have picked up a used ITS for mine also. I was thinking along the same lines with the much cleaner look in the back. I am probably going with N/A power, maybe a merc 525 EFI or possibly a Zul. Anyway, I wish you the best with your project. Hopefully next summer we can all meet at the 20 run. DK |

You guys have to know that this hull was never ment for that horsepower. Its nice that you can afford that kind of $$$$$, but you are wasting your money. Why do you think that the original ads for the 20 Cig rated it at 60 MPH. The added HP that will take you above 70 MPH makes that hull crazy. Just food for thought !

Offshoredrillin,
Did You See The Raylar Small Block That Is Coming Out? That Looks Like A Cool Motor For A 20' Cig. Very Light (under 500lbs) And 550hp! I Want To Run A Flat Engine Hatch On Mine And That Would Be Small Enough To Do So. What Do You Think? Dk |

We are going to flip it over and start on the bottom next. I am down in FL for the show this weekend but will give you a call when I get back home to talk about the hull. The 750 sounds gnarly!! |

Rick OSG that thing looks awesome, I was the guy that was with Bobby(LSjr), the day we saw it at Phils place, and we called about your windshield. Here is how my24 Pantera turned out, before and after, nowhere near as nice as your 20, but all of this work was done here at home by myself. I uploaded them bacwards, obviously the black is the before photo. Rick |

I don't have any pictures, but if you look at the 20 brochure picture from the early 80's and the picture of the 20 in King of Thunderboat row it is either the same boat or an exact sister.
Thanks, Barry |

I swear they look a lot like the 20 foot Donzi Minx, especially in that old brochure.
I sold my Minx last week. |

Thanks! Yes, white gelcoat. I am having a pro do the glasswork but I will be doing all the rigging.
He is glassing up the tub that is in the deck right now. I want it to have the classic look but with a very clean looking deck. I will post more when I get them. DK |

I'm getting ready to list my 20' Cigarette for sale. I have pictures now but have to get around to upgrading my membership to post. The boat is in really nice shape, all original graphics and interior. 454/415 w/TRS. Runs great. Hydraulic sterring. Tandem axle galvanized trailer. What is it worth?
Thanks, Barry Did you ever end up saleing this boat?? David |

DK or Rick, where are you putting your fuel fill. i thought I saw it on the deck, I'm thinking maybe putting mine on the side...any pics?...Rob
Not sure what type of fill you are using, but I advise not putting it on the side. My buddy had the old-school flip top cap on the side of his Checkmate, and you could not raft him on that side; as it would damage your boat. |
