Hello! Just surfing tonight and noticed post #18 with fond memories "Smokin'". That 20' cig really inspired myself and a friend back in the mid 80's at a race on the Chesapeake Bay out of "Red Eyes". Are you still the same owner?

The new owner lives in michigan. I do believe that he baught the boat in the Chesapeake Bay area.

I bought the 20' SMOKIN from the guy who used to race it on the Chesapeake about ten years ago. I can't think of his name right now - Wayne something, I think. Anyway it's still going strong. I put a 502 crate engine in it two years ago. I hate to say anything, but everything else has held up good! It runs in the low 80s. The 20' that my buddy Mike Baldwin has came from the same neighborhood. They used to run together on the Chesapeake. The story is that mine always used to whip Mike's, so the owner put a lighter hopped up small block in his, hoping the lighter weight would speed him up. Apparantly he flipped it the first time out and the boat was never put back into the water until I trailered it back to Michigan and Mike got it running. It's kind of neat, as they are back in the water close to each other again and logging plenty of hours. My name is Rocky Smith, in case you happen to know the guy who used to race it out there. I'd like to talk to him again.

It looks like this will to be my ride for Friday night.
I just went through the brakes. The front end needs some minor work but other then that it runs great.
It is unbelievable how solid it is.
It is no hot rod but I think we will still have a good time.
If you use the creeper gear I know it will burn the tires at least once over.
