Motors run like a bat out of hell and have never been apart yet. I guess it is all in how and who maintains your equipment. Depending on how a 330 hr boat is maintained I agree that there could be some underlying issues with the motors that could make it not such a great deal. Dry weight on a Cigarette playgirl is 8800lbs. Dry weght on a 38 Fountain is 8500. not a whole lot of difference here. But I agree in most cases this is true especially with the older guns and what not.

I based the numbers off of personal experience. 20k to 30k means about 5 to 8k for a trailer and 6 to 10k per motor for a rebuild. Now that's not the back yard boogie rebuild where some shade tree mechanic comes over after work and rebuilds it for a couple of bucks, a ride when it's done, and a case of beer, that means getting it rebuilt (in California) at Teague Custom Marine or Paul Pfaff racing engines. In other words and actual shop. That's just what it costs here. And don't forget, those shops don't pull the motors out and put them back in for free. You have to add that in there as well. And as for getting more than 350 or 450hrs on a set of 500's? Hey I'm proud of you if you're doing it. I don't know of anyone else that's been able to do that. I know I haven't been that lucky. But then again, I run in salt water almost all of the time with a TRUE 38' boat that weighs more than 8500lbs. Maybe a combination of that and a heavy throttle hand have something to do with it. :D

Then there is the cost of drives.

Buy it

That's a $129K machine - and a collector "Playboy" - Time for as rebuild if she has 300 hours, rings, bearings, valve train -

Gellner

Jupiter Sensation,

Dean put my 572 together - spec pistons and it hasn't missed a beat. I made the mistake of taking my other motor to Buffalo Bill and it needs to come out after 10 hours. My point is, if Gellner did the motors, they are done right - I think Dreamer wants a bunch more cash-wise for his Playbay and I'll tell you - its not a prefect boat....My two cents again, Ask Mr Horsepower about those motors -
