what is this playboy worth
1 Attachment(s)
looking to buy this 2002 playboy with 330 hrs, no trailer , what is it worth, thanks don
|
Need more info
Got any more info? What motors, have they been rebuilt if so by who and when? What drives, how many hours on those? What does the interior look like? Does it need anything? You could be looking anywhere from low to mid 100's.
|
If that is the one from Passport Marine it should have 500's. I know the original owner and he traded it on a new Formula 370 SS. The boat was from North Palm Beach, FL.
They were trying to trade that boat on a new 38 TG at the Miami show and couldn't get more than 100K for a trade but maybe Formula stepped up a little harder on the trade. |
this is the one from passport, 500`s most is stock, with a new gps, looks good from the pics, will take a closer look soon, i am told it is very clean... and no trailer...
|
If they were going to give him 100k on trade towards a new 38, that means real money it is worth less than 100k.
|
they are asking the high onethirty`s

100 is a steal and 130s is very reasonable

I think Dreamers Playboy was 130's with a new interior/ Gellner rebuilds and it was an Ohio freshwater boat. Plus I am a sucker for the black Playboy paint scheme. |
Salt water boats are worth at least 30% less. 100k seems like all the money for a 330 hr salt water boat.

but people on here say 80k for a clean 15 yr old cafe is a good deal that boat is worth all of 115-120 |
It's rebuild time for the motors. So to rebuild the motors and get a nice trailer, you're probably looking at about an extra 20to 30 grand. Offer 100k. But there's a guy here selling a really good looking Playboy edition with a lot of recent work done to it. I would be looking at that boat really hard first. The resale on the Playboy edition will be better as well.
That may have been dreamers boat. (If it's still for sale) |
will post pix this week when shes done... got her to the marina yesterday and took her for a spin... stereo and some final nuts and bolts and she will be done later this week

With 330 hours why would they need rebuilds. 500efis bottom ends are good till 800 hours maybe more. Saltwater probably 6-700 hours. Valvesprings and a topend freshen is minimal labor and parts Figure 2500-$3000 and $6-7k for a trailer. Where are we coming up with 20-30 Grand? Lets be realistic.
20-30k.... been there done that... this aint for cheapskates |
I think 330 is premature for a rebuild. Also a merc powered playboy is worth more money to me than an updated non merc playboy.

330 is not premature for a salt water boat in S. FL where it is boating season year round. |
Let me add on to my previous statement "stock merc power". By the way, I too love the full playboy with paint and interior as opposed to the one we are discussing. Dude

Guys- a set of 500efis are only worth 20-25k anyway. Who in the heck out there is spending 25 grand on rebuilds of existing motors to merc specs.
RAF |
Not disputing that. At 330hrs in no way does a 500efi need a full rebuild. Top end freshen( valvesprings etc.)maybe. ( Mercury recomendations) Bottom ends on an EFI are good till 800hrs. Call Mercury. Just trying to break the cost down for the guy interested in this boat.

Sorry Dreamer im not trying to be a douchebag. My 500s have almost 500hrs. compression tested every year well. Oil changed every 20hrs. and valvesprings done every 200. Motors run like a bat out of hell and have never been apart yet. I guess it is all in how and who maintains your equipment. Depending on how a 330 hr boat is maintained I agree that there could be some underlying issues with the motors that could make it not such a great deal. (Cig forum is more exciting than the Reggie forum)

:D Dry weight on a Cigarette playgirl is 8800lbs. Dry weght on a 38 Fountain is 8500. not a whole lot of difference here. But I agree in most cases this is true especially with the older guns and what not. RAF |
I based the numbers off of personal experience. 20k to 30k means about 5 to 8k for a trailer and 6 to 10k per motor for a rebuild. Now that's not the back yard boogie rebuild where some shade tree mechanic comes over after work and rebuilds it for a couple of bucks, a ride when it's done, and a case of beer, that means getting it rebuilt (in California) at Teague Custom Marine or Paul Pfaff racing engines. In other words and actual shop. That's just what it costs here. And don't forget, those shops don't pull the motors out and put them back in for free. You have to add that in there as well. And as for getting more than 350 or 450hrs on a set of 500's? Hey I'm proud of you if you're doing it. I don't know of anyone else that's been able to do that. I know I haven't been that lucky. But then again, I run in salt water almost all of the time with a TRUE 38' boat that weighs more than 8500lbs. Maybe a combination of that and a heavy throttle hand have something to do with it. :D

Then there is the cost of drives.
|
Buy it
That's a $129K machine - and a collector "Playboy" - Time for as rebuild if she has 300 hours, rings, bearings, valve train -
|
Gellner
Jupiter Sensation,
Dean put my 572 together - spec pistons and it hasn't missed a beat. I made the mistake of taking my other motor to Buffalo Bill and it needs to come out after 10 hours. My point is, if Gellner did the motors, they are done right - I think Dreamer wants a bunch more cash-wise for his Playbay and I'll tell you - its not a prefect boat....My two cents again, Ask Mr Horsepower about those motors - |
