I think you will find the 30's to be the ticket. If your TG is a full cabin turn the props in.

Several tips to making drives live:
-Some slip is good, while coming on plane and flying in/out of the water the slip will "cushion" the jolt/torque on the drive.
-Come on plane easy.
-Go easy in/out of gear around docks.
-Change drive oil after 25-30 hours.

I run 4-blade lab 30's with XR uppers (Max caps), Imco 1.34 lowers on my 98 TG. In a little over 2 summers I've had to go through each drive only once.
I do run hard at times.
Good luck, enjoy it!

What power are you running and where's your speed at?

You may see 90s with that power if set up right. Before we detuned our 97 Gun we ran 850+ hp with Max Worx 1.34 ratio ,30 pitch Bravos low to mid 90s after bottom hull work. After 3 blown drives we detuned to 750hp or so and in the heat still ran high 80s GPS.
Good Luck!

Who did your bottom? I'm seeing posts about blue printing for $1000. I was under the impression blue printing the hull was way more than that?

572 blower motors, turned down so not positive of hp, around 800-850??, flat water runs 90mph, some chop 3-5mph more on GPS.

My engine builder Rudy at Diamond Marine Performance DE did a quick fix on our pad to justify his hp. We gained an instant 6 to 7 mph and experienced way less porpoising.

I have a 96 T/G with a full cabin with close to the same power
1st Motor made 796 hp @ 5250 and 880 ftLbs at 3200 rpm
2st motor made 778 hp @ 5250 and 880ftLbs at 3200 rpm
so my rpm's are lower then yours I also have Bravo XRs 1.50 and I'm on my third one
30 pitch did not work for me at all it ran 78mph @ 5300 on the rev limiters at about half throttle
now I have a set of 34s labbed bravo's running 84mph at 5300rpm on the rev limiters with about 26% slip
I also tryed a set of stock 32s from BBlades and ran 84 mph at 5300 rpm a little better slip
stock bottom with no hook and mph on gps
let me know what props you try
I'm thinking 5 or 6 blades????

So what would the board suggest to use as good reliable drives? I can't afford to be washing through drives.

greg bakker 06-18-2007 08:24 PM

what drives are you thinking of that would be the strongest?

Blue by You 06-18-2007 08:28 PM

Yea...within reason. I'm not offshore racing. But I will have 800HP. I want to have reliability. I built my motors to handel 1200HP but only asking them to do 800. What drive set up would give me the same position? I'm 90% of the time in fresh lake water....so launching is not going to happen. I'm also pretty gentle getting on plane...
