I thought I'd share these pics of an older Top Gun that was recently restored from Nav light to the prop nuts by Dorr's Marine in Windham Maine.
It was a three year project that began with a 1992' Gun. Tim Dorr purchased it from Gran-Sport in Chi Town fall 2004. The boat had been sitting since 1999 and from the looks of the hull, this boat had spent very little time on the water.
The hull was stripped bare and totally re-rigged with top shelf everything.

Tim wanted to make it look like it did brand new back in 1992, the bare hull was sent to New England Fiberglass in Portland, Maine. The entire hull was wet sanded, all graphics repainted, buffed etc. A new factory blower hatch was installed and all hardware powdercoated.

The entire cockpit was redone with newer style bolsters from Lip-Ship. The entire cabin gutted and redone with new headliner, lighting, etc.

DME built the motors from scratch with all NEW components,
572" GM Bow Tie blocks,
Callies cranks, Oliver rods,
Dart Pro-1 aluminum heads Crower rockers with stud girdles.
CP pistons,
Ultra Dyne custom ground hyd roller cams
Morel lifters,
Blower Shop Billet 8:71 blowers,
Holley 850 blower prepped carbs,
CMI elbow top fully polished stainless headers with dry to tip tailpipes,
Gibson mufflers,

The BW 72C's were sent to Huber for nitraded shafts and upgraded to HM1200 specs. Hardin Marine 1000 hp drive plates installed.

The boat was then fitted with all new IMCO full hydraulic steering, Konrad 540HP drives. All new livorsi guages and topped off with a 1200 watt stereo system.

..anyway, I had a little time so I thought I'd share.

Call Jeff @ Competion Marine Center 636-946-1182 He's got the mold. They built it crated and shipped to the door.

Glassdave also build a factory looking Top Gun blower hatch.

Nice boat, I just think the paint scheme should have been more modern rather than repainting 1992 all over again.

nothing but pure class, I love them old Gunns. Now it needs a nice trailer to finish the package. Great job, glad to see them being restored

Sad news, this boat was lost in a horrific fire last week.

VetteLT193 10-20-2008 12:04 PM

That is terrible.

I like the look of many of the older Top Guns than many of the new ones. Some of the new boats look like they should be in a circus... this one was so tasteful

drpete3 10-20-2008 12:25 PM

WTF. First thought ..was this arson? Whats the story behind the fire

From what I heard, it might have been electrical issues in another part of the building. Not arson.

Here's what's left of a mint 45 Sonic. It was just repowered with brand new drives, gimbals, paint and interior. Had not been wet since.

c_deezy 10-20-2008 01:35 PM

What a total bummer! That sucks too see.

Jupiter Sunsation 10-20-2008 01:42 PM

Wow that sucks........ Keep us posted on the insurance payoff. I bet that will be harder to deal with than the fire was!

Perlmudder 10-20-2008 02:07 PM

wow...my heart just sunk!

Comanche3Six 10-20-2008 04:57 PM

Holy Hell!!!!!!!

omerta one 10-20-2008 05:02 PM

That stinks.

Smitty 10-20-2008 07:02 PM

I'm speechless...................

thisistank 10-20-2008 07:15 PM

HOLY SH!T!!

that f*ckin' SUCKS!!

Was this a shop Kurt?

BAD ENOUGH 10-20-2008 07:33 PM

Sorry for your loss. It was a beautiful boat.

LV 10-20-2008 07:37 PM
