Do a search on on the entire site for "27 squadron" - scroll thru all threads - there's alot there. Here's a few pics I have. I'm trying to locate my original 27 cigarette ads, and the 24 cigarette ad with a picture of the 27 on it. I'm no expert, but I have learned all I can about them. Apparently Don went back to work for Cigarette a year or so after leaving and starting "Squadron 12" boats, and merged the two company's - so some were sold as Squadron 12's the first year or so, and the rest were sold as Cigarette's. I have not comfirmed whether any of them have the CIG on thier hull #'s, all the ones I have seen or heard of have XEX - but I do know that #18 was built in 1983, and my #12 was built in 1981, == #18 is the highest hull # I have heard of. There were published ads for these boats as both Squadron 12's, and as Cigarette 27's. Mine has always been titled as a cigarette, in FLA, NY, NC, and MD.
The hull is essentially different from both the mag 27 and Cig 28 in that is has huge outer strakes - twiced the size of those boats - to help carry the cruise speed with only one motor.
The DANA 27 still uses the exact bottom today, from the rub rail down - including those large strakes.
