Noobie question RE:38' Flat Deck
Afternoon fellas, I think I stumbled onto the holy grail of powerboat gold, there is so much info here that at this point I have thoroughly overwhelmed and confused myself. I've been poking around for a couple of weeks now searching for information about a boat that I have had reciently surveyed and am planning on buying depending on dyno runs and final inspection. Question: dose anyone know about or have info on this boat? I have been in contact w the owner and he has been very helpful, just looking for a second opinion Doctors....
http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/boa/637319598.html Thank you all for your help. I hope to be w u a while..... |
Welcome to the forum. I don't know the boat personaly. But I'm sure someone on here does. The 38 flat deck is an awesome wave crusher. Good luck.
|
Thank you. Thats what I hear! I'm pretty excited though I gotta tow it back to Maine, 1100 miles... Anyone else? bump.. What do you think of the value? I know the market is kinda soft right now...
|
Best to ask this question in the Chicago Powerboat Club forum..you might be surprised at what you hear
|
Looks like a nice original flat deck 38.....I like 'em original.
Buy it! :) |
Hey Noobie from another! Ahoy!!
I think I saw this on another forum...a week or two ago maybe another guys request for opinions? I have the identical setup on an '83 hull ,just working my way through check lists and replacing drives..love my boat ,she's a beast! I can't say you can go wrong if it's been well maintained but I have seen some later hulls possibly smaller dimensions at lower prices, not allways builder of choice though. From what I've been told these hulls will take you through hell and high water and back! Actually my boat came out of lake huron and michigan I think.. Looks like a good buy enjoy! Bert |
Oh boy Kool-Aid y dosent that sound "refreshing".....? I just dropped a thread over there. I don't think I need to be making any monitary mistakes.... Thank you for the words fellas, I had a survey done by a very reputable dude. We'll see how it transpires from here......
|
Let us know how it goes. Good luck!1
|
You bet. Thanks!
|
BTW- Kool-aid is thinking of a different boat...far as I know, no worries on Bill's. He also owns The Beast, a 1978 or 79 39 footer that should FINALLY be done this year after sitting at a certain engine shop for a number of years. Heard he brought it up to Wessyldyk to get it done.
|
Oh boy sommer..... I dont think Bill owns the beast ;/ you know what I mean.......He dosent like to talk about it.... I dont know if I have pm privleges yet but if you can pm me.....Thanks for the tip! I dont have pm but will get it in a couple of hrs....

MrCIG, your boat is sick!! It looks great, I saved a pic I found on here and set it as my desktop screen saver. The pic is you running at a good clip side view out of the water lowers and all!! What a beautiful boat.. What are you running for power, trans and drives? OOps never mind, I found that pic and some more when I just searched for "38 flat deck" on here. Looks like konrads and BBchevs.. Very nice..
|
Thanks Vintage. I love the boat it's not real fast but it has a great ride. The motors are 515 cu.in with Brodix aluminum heads. Konrad Drives and Beefed up Borg Warner trans.
Mark |
Oooo, what mods have you done to the Borg Warners? Also, thats not a factory swim platform is it? I was thinking about one and wondering if I would go old school or just a white/red powder coated aluminum one. Now I think it would have to be nothing but mahogany and stainless, sharp!
|
Nope not mine. I'll probably go to the grave with mine.
Anyway Dave I'll be up by you in Reefpoint this year. Mark how you doin??? Say hey to Jimmy for me. V38 You love it as long as your not thinking your buying a ride that won't need to be wrench all the time. These flatties are not new boats and it takes a lot of work to make them look and run like Mr.Cig's or Fox Hunter or mine. Good luck |
Russ, Good to see you back on the board. Hopefully we see you this summer. I will definetly tell Jimmy you said hi. He checks the board maybe once a week but doesn't post. All is well here looking foraward to summer..
Russ is right these are not turn key boats. Takes lots of time and $ to keep them going. If you like to run them the way they are built to run. Mark |
Good advice, that has been my understanding for years. I graduated from meritime w a Cheif engineers licence in 98 and I sailed b4 and after, I'm not new to maintenence SP? Just installed 30k worth of top end this week as well as cutting out an old exhaust port and welding in a new one, that took 5 days alone.... I just havent owned a bigger boat yet so I'm a little tentitive, I'm just tryin to cover my bases and educate myself b4 I go shootin from the hip....Keep the advice comin, I'm mopin it up and wringin it in my bucket!!
