Are there any specifics on replacing a steering cable on a cafe. I mean is it just a basic cable you size up or do you need to order it by a specific part number ? Thanks

Me and a friend have replaced the cable but when I went to have it adjusted the mechanic seems to think the cable is to short. I don't know if there was anything specific my friend needed to know when he purchased the cable. Or if all cables are universal. Thanks
