Default 01 38/ts with #4 ssm ???

I have a 01 38ts with xr drives . has anyone ever converted this setup to # 4 ssm drives? I know that i would have to move the engines forward. a # 4ssm is 19" from center shaft to center shaft, and a #6ssm is 20 " from center to center. would it be the same setup as a # 6 but 1" lower? are parts still available for # 4,s?
its alot fo work but i think it would be reliable and half the cost of #6ssm.
