Tiger vs. Top Gun ?
Could someone tell me what is the "best" Cigarette, and why... Basically, what are the main differences between the Tiger and Top Gun?
Thanks!:ernaehrung004: |

i was told the 39 is there best hull.

I am not sure about this but I think the 4 foot comment above just about sums it up.
From what I have seen (and there are smarter people on here to comment than me) something to consider is that the tiger is a little pointier - resulting in essentially the same amount of hull in the water. I am not sure there is a lot of ride difference considering this fact, but I have never been in a tiger. As far as roominess/accomodations/appointments - same as the rest.... Note that the Tiger comes in a flat bottom and T/S design. |
I like both boats and would personally consider both while making a decision. However, I find that the Topgun has a bigger cockpit and a nicer sunpad area making it a little more user friendly. Also, when it comes time to sell, I think that the Topgun has a slight advantage over the Tiger. The Topgun has always been one of Cigarettes most popular and best selling boats. Either way, you can't go wrong.

It seems that both the Tiger and TG range from 38-42 in length... am I correct..so basically there is very little difference betweeen the two.. other than the sunpad area and a slight nose change???

The Top Gun is the 38 footer - all Top Guns are 38 feet (with the exception of the new 39 TG Unlimited, and a handful of 35' Top Gun's) but for your purposes TG's are 38 feet. Just wanted to make sure that was clear.... |
Actually SeaFord, that was where I was messed up!!!! I actually did not know that.:drink: NOW I understand.... that's why it's good to ask people who know what the !%$ they are talking about!! Money wise then the Tiger will obviously be more expensive... just because of the size difference... Gotcha.

Are you refering to a twin step top gun & tiger or a flat bottom?
There are actually three different models of Tigers. The striaght bottom, the original twin step and the adjusted twin step (X) which changed the cg for big drives/power. There were also (in the 38 range) two different Top Guns...The straight bottom and the Twin Step. As well as limited edition 35 Top Guns (under 10 made I believe) and then there's the 39 Top Gun, which added 1 foot to allow a staggared motor set up. The 39 is said by many to be the best all around Cigarette ever built. I've spent plenty of time in straight bottom guns (ours) and in a straight bottom Tiger (a buddies). They ride about the same but the thing you'll notice is most straight bottoms (Most, not all) Tigers were bulit with big power and usually big drives. The Guns were built in all different configurations. The straight bottomed Top Guns also had full cabins. The striaght Tigers had the cover girl cabin (1/2 cabin). The twin step tigers/gun both have cover girl cabins. So are you thuroughly confused now??:drink: |
I like the Tiger...
There are less of them. |
Of the Top Gun models currently made the 38 is a side by side engine setup and the 39 is a staggered engine setup. The staggered setup both lowers and moves the center of gravity forward for better balance, which helps maintain level flight when catching air. Both are twin step hulls. I believe the 39 to be the fastest of the lineup when using comparable power (most efficient) under 115mph. The 46 w/ 1075's is one bad hombre. It's the one I'd want if I could go faster than 115 and would be preferred over the 39 with that horsepower.

Were there not single step Guns built? I remember reading that they weren't real user friendly. Lets not forget about them but if someone is looking and doesn't know about them it should be brought up.
