I've seen like three different threads on various websites and NO ONE has posted a pic of the boat...WTF? You guys are letting me down man.

That bow sticking up actually looks like the "Skatterette" that was recently for sale. Same boat?

MF 05-11-2009 05:00 AM

Damn That is Sad !! And the boat is the new one with 1075 ??
Good thing everyone is Ok.

What will happen to her now ?

sommerfliesby 05-11-2009 06:57 AM

Not the E-type...but it was the boat owned by the same guy that had the E-type built. Colors are very similar.

I cried... One of my favorite boats. I had the pleasure of running it once and ridding a couple times.

BLee 05-11-2009 09:44 AM

"Witness Michael Wilmoth said his boat was overtaken by the craft that crashed.

"I was probably doing about 80-85," he said. "They were doing over 100."

niiiiiiiiiiice!

*waits for dumbass posts blaming the boat*

I just saw first hand pictures and they were not wearing life jackets either.

lol, christ......

That's probably the most powerful Cigarette, pound for pound, that you could build to date. You'd need to SERIOUSLY know what's up when running that boat hard.

Barring one of those steel monsters you can see for miles, sometimes it's better to just run those plastic bouys/crabpots over when you're running fast, rather than risking an accident to miss it.

I'm sure glad everyone is alive. They really got lucky on this one.

Obviously God used all his power to save them and not the Dallas Mavericks. I’m going to the game again tonight, God please help the MAVS.

On a serious note, yes the captain of this boat is a lucky guy and so is his crew.

Cheer up! Cigarette didn't cut up the mold after they made that one and can make more.:ernaehrung004:

It's still a shame.....:(

Glad everone is OK.
A fine, expensive powerboat like that rolled is depressing.

2 fast 4 you 05-11-2009 11:21 PM

Not everyday everyone on board survives a roll over at those speeds....definately a miracle since they hadn't been wearing any life jackets. Good to hear everyone is alright.

That is the very boat that made me a big fan of the 39...absolutely love everything about that boat.

aTX427 05-13-2009 07:45 PM

Sad - luckily no one died. More bad publicity for the sport and the brand.

Good point, definately a bad thing to happen in this economy with the industry where it is already.

MF 05-14-2009 04:23 PM

Well, in my opinion it happens in every aspects of life...from cars to fast boats and luxury ones....i've seen a lot of ferretti and azimut being broken in the hull by running fast over the roks where i usually go noating (adriatic sea and croatian coasts...), sometimes driven by sons of 12 - 13 years old.... People has the money (in some way) buys the boats and the think that they can handle everything.....without knowing nothing.
A friend of mine bought a Squadron 20 mt, then made the license to driving it.
In the meantime he asked me and my father to "help him " making practice with dockings and things like that (note - we have a halmatic 50 ft and i have been on the sea for 30 of my 32 years...). Once he had the driving license done ($$$) he went out alone with his wife and nearly destrojed the boat by catching a piece of tree at 35 mph in the canal for going outside.....the catched 4 times low sea, the tird gut stuck in the sand and it costed him 20.000,00 € to have the boat dragged out by a nearby fisherman with his fishing boat.....broken propellers and shafts to be subsitutes...
His answer..well what's the problem, everyone can go in the sea, it's not difficult....

It is always Ok when no one has bad injuries and they still are alive, but some people must learn that all the things take their time.

Just a shame for the boat...always wondering what happens to these ones after they roll.

Just my Opinion

PARADISE ISLAND 05-14-2009 09:38 PM

This is sad because boat schools are out there! I don't care who you are a new boat you have drive it dock it !The price you pay for a boat like this it's a small amount to pay expert before taking people for a blast at least 80-100 hours to learn the boat:party-smiley-004: my 02?PS Your talking 2150 HP!

Actually, I would venture to say that the BRAND being what it is, might be the reason the occupants all lived.

I am a huge Cigarette fan, but at 100 MPH it doesnt matter what you are in... aside from a canopy and that has even been deadly!

TxHawk,
I agree 100% with you. The only impact the Cigarette brand had is it enabled them to do something this stupid. Would never have happened in a Bayliner.

Also..............there was some discussion that the crew were not wearing pfd/lifejackets. Anyone know if that has that ever been cleared up ?

Some recovery pics posted in the poker run section. I think this boat is done. IMO no way someone would survive that without a life jacket, much less 6 people

Well after seeing him revive that octopus boat back to 10/10 condition, I'd have to agree. You'd just have to present something he'd find interest in taking on, outside of just making it look the same as before.

MF 05-21-2009 05:03 PM

Looks like the hull is in perfect shape, but all the inside things must be redone....
What will happen now ? The insurance company will put it on hold then auction it for salvage or what ???
In Italy there will be an officer from the insurance inspect the damage and then, after 1- 2 months they will refund the money or if the damage is not big, pay for the repair.

... or BRAND being the reason it rolled. Hitting the water is the best thing that happens when you get ejected. Some one else landing on you and the boat running you over beging far worse scenarios. I witnessed the same thing happen to a full stagger 38 Fountain - hooked, stayed upright and no one ejected - same thing on a 47. Driver error being the cuplret in both incidents, but neither rolled. lately cigs have been hooking left and right. Don't get me wrong - I like 39 TGU's. They are probably my favorite boat out there, but I think my 42L is safer - certainly faster.

Except they are built so piss poor they are just as likely to suffer catastrophic damage and come apart in pieces. Just don't go looking under the headliner and carpet, it will scare the crap out of you.

Before you even think of arguing. I own a fountain and I did take mine completely apart and rebuild the stringers and bulkheads because they were done so poorly. This was on a brand new custom ordered boat.

I was afraid it would break in half jumping 4 footers.

Interceptor 05-22-2009 09:25 AM

2112,
So you're saying you had a custom ordered Fountain built that wasn't seaworthy ?
What was Fountains response to those charges ? I imagine the USCG would also be interested along with other industry regulators.
