Default What triggers dash alarm??

I have a 93 Cig TG.... It has pretty much the stock set up of 525sc's except the longlocks were just changed out to 502's from 454's and they have blower shop blowers on them....

The port side engine alarm is staying on (beeping) after start up.... I know the drive resorvoir can trigger it but it is good, its full and I undid the wires to test and it still goes off....
Engine temp and oil pressure are all good too. Wondering if it is ground or electrical....

thoughts on what I should try/check? thanks in advance.

Mark

If you're impellar is goine or gone and theres not enough water to cool, it'll go off (lost an impellar and had it happen). Better make sure your temp gauge is reading correct. If you're getting a lot of "steam" coming out of the port motor that may be your problem.

Thansk Tank, I am getting good streams of water coming out the dumps on that side... and the gauges are new.... I am starting to guess it is more of a bad sender issue... either h20 temp or oil pressure, but the gauges are reading accurately.

Better check all the connections, grounds and sending units. Could just be a lose wire...especially if all the gauges are reading correctly.

Been working on this myself, on the same boat (93 TG). Got sidetracked on something else for the time being but if you figure it out, by all means post what you found

Basically the way I understand it its, you have two switches 1) the oil pressure switch 2) the water temp switch. These are different then your gauge senders, the water temp should ground out when it reaches a certain temp completing the ground circuit and sounding the alarm/light and the oil pressure switch should be grounded when there isn't pressure, as soon as there is pressure the switch opens and there is no longer a ground and the light/buzzer silences.

Ding ding!!! Exactly Deezy. Chased this situation around for a while myself. BOTH of my oil pressure alarm switches (not gauge senders) were going bad and would only give a faint sounding alarm. It was because the switches were partially closed and weren't making a clean break when the oil pressure came up. Ran me crazy but eventually found it.

Mindi at Doller Marine has always been helpful when I need to order something, mercruiserparts.com is another good site.

Did you ever get this figured out eichhoma?

Had a motor out a few weeks ago, finally figured out where all of the senders/sensors are but haven't had time to troubleshoot the buzzers. One motor had a bad water temp switch, anybody know where to get one of those? The only ones I've found so far are around $60 bucks!!!
