1993 Gun : Changing the round deckrail to newer style

Have the round chrome type on the deck and also running around the sunpad on my '93.

Can I get the flat square ones that they use on the newer Guns from anyone besides Cigarette ? I havent called them yet for pricing but I would imagine I'd have to bend over. Do they use the same holes as the existing ?

Guidance and suggestions please, thanks in advance !

Jaime,

Have you thought about glassing over the holes and repainting? Just a thought.

You would have to fill in the old holes, at least on the deck as the flat bar mounts on aluminum 'pods' (for lack of a better word) directly underneath it and the round bar mounts kick off to the side a bit. At least you have the round bar on the deck and the rear, I know a guy that has round bar on the deck and flat bar on the rear

But all it really is, is a piece of aluminum stock. I'm sure you could fabricate it yourself by finding a local metal supplier for the material.

The flat rail is 1/4" x 1.5 or 1/75" flat aluminum stock with a radius routered on the edges. The original block design was just a piece of 1.5" round stock with a hole in it for mounting. Then they went to the trapazoid style. I like the round style because it is easier on the hands and feet. I have the actual dimensions somewhere I'll take a look.

Or get rid of it all together. It looks good. Of course I am biased.

That rail is Taco metal stock, the center spacers are tube or square stock machined. You can get the aluminum and make it yourself. http://www.tacometals.com/

That's what you and I have Dave for Jamie....he can do anything!!!!! hahaha Bye the way I took mine off when i repainted it...looks good to me but to each there own!!

Flip side is to have Dave make some temporary small brackets or small covers just to hid the screw holes....see the functionality of it and determine if you like it or not...just my .02

I kind of like the old style rails. Like somebody told me before, if you want a boat that looks new, buy a new boat. Gotta love old school TOP GUNS. JMO.

The older round is all SS and will not corrode. The painted white flat bar looks great for a few years......until corrosion starts creeping under the powdercoat. Then it looks like :poopoo:

The SS round bar and supports are lifetime and can be polished.

Yea I hear you its tough to get in the water. My pockets are not deep enough to just keep throwing money at it like some guys are capable of.
I listened to a guy get me all excited about buying this boat when the boat I had was perfect. (MY MISTAKE)
The guy who bought my old boat I think made the same mistake listing to the same guy.
I see that boat not in the water yet either. (HIS MISTAKE)
Some guys know just what to say too get you geeked up in the heat of the moment when you should actually take a step back and rethink what you are about to do.:grinser010:

I will see you on the water soon.

Jamie

If you know off a Gun with the rail you want I can come and measure and make at work then just powder coat and mount

Keep your cotton pickin' hands off it and spend the money on fuel. It looks just fine the way it is.

Jaime: Look up Von Bongo and Smokinbob on this forum. they are the two previous owners of my 93 TG. One of them upgraded the rails on mine, I'm just not sure which one did that upgrade though. I love it. Old pics, but she still looks the same... except now she has the windscreen. Mark

Personally, I like my round stainless rail much better than the flat painted piece. Ever notice on Phil's own 20 Ciggie, he's got the old round rail. :drink: As mentioned above, most of the flat alum rails look nasty after a few years.
