Default Hatch Springs

My springs on one of my hatches have once again failed & cant support the hatch to stay open. I just bought 4 new ones last yr. Is there a trick to keeping them working? Right now i think i have mine mounted where the body is mounted to the hatch & arm to the deck. Should i reverse or maybe disconnect one end so it can extend when in the down position for long length of time?

I think these were made to fail. I have replaced mine and they stopped working after only a year or so as well. I just use a ghetto method and place a small pair of vice grips on the arm to hold them open. I know it is rigged but at least they stay open.

thanks, so its just not me. im gonna try moving swapping one spring from each side. see if maybe 1.5 springs will be enough. then i can work on afro engineering a more permanent solution to keep them working.

It is not just you. I got the idea from another guy at our lake with a Cafe' and he does this because he got tired of swapping them every year.

I know there is also another Cafe' now doing the same thing as well.

I replaced my spring supports for the cabin hatch with these. Worked great!
