Carbon Fiber Top Gun?

A buddy of mine is looking at a 1991 Carbon Fiber Top Gun in NY. He is looking for info on the carbon option was it good? Are there any known problems or areas of concern? Any help is appreciated?

Thanks,
Frank

If you do a search, you'll find some good older threads/info on this topic, including pics of the layup.

I had a '91 Carbon 70 Cafe, which was approximately 400 pounds lighter than a normal Cafe, per Craig. Carbon 70 Guns are about 600 pounds lighter from what I recall. With roughly 600hp per, my Cafe ran lower 80's loaded/all day long thru stock Bravo's.

Thanks Jamie any strutural problems with them? Low 80's is a great number I guess I need to shed some weight in my boat.

I had a carbon fiber TG "The Pink Flamingo". No issues 4 me.
I sold it to a guy on the left coast, no issues.
He sold it to a guy on the left coast.
He hit a pole in the water,in the scope poker run.
He then had BIG issues.

I had no issues with mine, owned it for just under 3 years. I dont recall anyone saying they had issues with theirs either, but again, do a search and see.

As a sidenote regarding speed, when I bought my Cafe from Everglades Marina, it had fresh Derebery Marine ( Leon ) motors in it, and when I called to get a copy of the dyno sheets from Derebery ( Everglades didnt have them and couldnt get them evidently ), Leon said he couldnt give them to me since I didnt pay for the builds myself. My guesstimate at 600hp per is just that, a guesstimate soley based on what I saw. Single carb SC motors cant make huge power though, which is what they were. I also had no swim platform on the boat and a factory race hatch on it which both also helped save weight.

What about when you bought the freaking boat? What a jack-ass.
Does he think he is protecting some big trade secret on a mild big block build? Sheesh.
