I've seen the picture numerous times. Never actually saw the video footage. Arguably the most famous picture in Powerboating!

Nice that they took the footage and gave us no credit.
I have it on my Banana Boat Co site. www.bananaboatco.com
Go to the section titled..Should you buy a Banana?
Scroll down to Don Aronow's Secret Formula and click on the link.....then scroll down a couple of paragraphs and the link is there for the film.
HORBA has the whole movie that the video was made from, shows the start of the race with Don and Bobby Rautboard in his Bertram battling it out and Don has his helmet on. Later as you can see here, the helmet is history.
There are other scenes where the speeds are much faster, they were keeping it going here near the end of a Bahamas 500....which was actually 539 miles long.
Next September 2010, HORBA is staging the Don Aronow Memorial Around Long Island Race. Based out of Guy LaMotta's Marina near Port Washington, NY. The race will be run by Billy Frenz, HORBA Board member and head of the NPBA racing group.
Come on out and try your hand at real ocean racing.
