This is the bolster mock-up for my Cafe Racer. I was told that they confirmed measurements from a 38 and a Playboy prior to fabrication, but, do they really have that much of a cant towards the back like that?

SKRAMER 01-27-2010 05:35 PM

Mine aren't like that...

Are yours canted at all, or, are the bolster bases completely level?

seafordguy 01-27-2010 06:51 PM

I don't think mine are like that either.

bustedbrick 01-27-2010 09:35 PM

Couple of pics of mine. Definitely a cant to the frame which translates to the bolster when mounted. The original Mistress bolsters and frames had no cant at all. I can take measurements if it would help.

Club Drew 01-27-2010 09:43 PM

They look the same!

Offshoreracr 01-27-2010 09:49 PM

Mine have no cant. The bottom of the bolster is level but it is an 86 and has the old style bases.

SKRAMER 01-28-2010 06:47 AM

I have a "89" cafe..no cant to them. But totally differant base..

rackster 01-28-2010 07:49 AM

No cant on 1990, about 19 1/2" from floor to bottom of bolster, (front and back).

BDiggity 01-28-2010 09:14 AM

I dont think mine have a cant. I will get a pic tonight since they are out to get sent off for powdercoating.

ajacobazzi 01-28-2010 01:51 PM

This was from a thread a few weeks ago......

http://www.westcoastoffshoreunlimite...-bolsters.html

If you follow the link and look at they're photos...........they don't appear to be canted.

I don't know which one is right! :( Some are canted, and some aren't..........................

Unfortuantely not. :( Those are the old/original bolster supports, right? I think all of the older style were level.

I sent an email to Bud Lorow at Cigarette with some photos. Hopefully, he'll reply, and we'll hear it directly from the horses mouth.

Sick Stinger 01-28-2010 05:07 PM

Hey AJ i also have an 87 want me to go in and check and get a pic?????

That would be great, as long as you had the updated bolster stands. Otherwise, it might not help me.

If you are rebuilding the wood, you can change any angle you want. Here's how I modified mine...

Because of the angle of the cockpit sides, if you make the backs vertical, the bolsters will actually look canted forward a little (from outside the boat)...mine do now.

First, let me start off by saying WOW!!!! That interior looks amazing!

I can clearly see what you've described in the photos. I guess, at this point, I can only hope that they know what they're doing. Maybe, since they were on the floor in the shop, opposed to in the boat, the condition looks exaggerated.

Thank you for sharing.

Oh, I see that you have a bimini top. How did that work out for you? Any photos with the top up?

Thanks for the compliment.

Hopefully, they will dry-fit the bolsters first? I tried to make by backs as thin as possible, to give more room to the area just in front of the bench seat (I extended that a little for more support).

Sorry, but I only have one bad pic of the bimini up (before the interior was done):

http://www.performanceboats.com/html...8/IMG_0669.jpg

The poles are stainless, and there is a mess strip down the middle, so it handles speed pretty well. As for shade, I absolutely love it- keeps the cockpit waaaay cooler in the summer heat.

The only downside is in sharp turns at medium speed, when the boat lays over, it blocks the view of where you are going...so you gotta plan ahead.

Ordinarilly, I probably wouldn't even consider it.......that's is, installing a bimini top. But, as I have a family now, the young kids would definately benefit from the shade. Especially, here in South Florida.

I have a hard time wrapping my mind around it. To me, it's almost like putting snow tires on a Ferrari.....know what I mean? Does it tuck away nicely or is it in your face when it's laid down?

There was a co. in S. Fl. designing a bimini top that completely folds up to be stored away when you're not using it. It was a pretty nice system from what I saw at the boat shows, but they were just taking orders at the time.

Now that sounds like the ticket!!! If anyone has any info on that company, that would be great. :)

Yes it does, thank you.......

It appears that the new ones have a drop. Mine happens to be a 3" drop, while a friend of mine (also with a Cafe) has a 1" drop. So, I guess it just comes down to how much the drop should be. I would imagine that, to a certain extent, they have a little to work with (as far as making adjustments) when fixing the bolster seat to the base. Well, I hope anyway.

I can take some measurments if you would like as they are right here in the shop. I would be glad to take additional pictures for you as well if needed. Just let me know.

Measurements would be great!

Mine measure 23" in the front and 20" in the rear.

My friends measure 23" in the front and 22" in the rear.

21 1/2 " rear, 23" in the front.

I think that there is a lot of varience in individual bases. I'll bet that yours will work just fine.

Out here in Havasu, it gets over 115 on some days (yeah, but it's a dry heat...lol)...so without some shade, you can get cooked. Here's a pic of the bimini stowed underway (but with my old hatch and interior):
http://www.performanceboats.com/html...oker_Run_1.jpg

When I'm not going to use it, I just release the two pins, and leave it in my storage. I only use it probably 25% of the time.

A friend of mine had his mounted under the hatch when stowed underway, but that seems like alot of extra work (when putting it away) without much benefit...it really doesn't get in the way much as it stowed in the picture.

That doesn't look bad at all! I'm going to look into it. Thank you for your help. :)

My bases are 21 1/8" at the front & back, so my seat base is flat.

Curious to know how your bolsters turned out. I want to modify the old style bolsters in my bullet by adding the headrest and embroidered cigarette logo to give it a more updated look.

Wayne,

Everything worked out perfectly! Check the link bellow, and you'll be able to see a photo or two.

Now, I just wish the motors would get with the program! They've been in, and out. In again, then out. Back in, one out. Then, both out. I can't catch a break. And I'm doing everything right, not cutting any corners.

Boat looks real nice, hopefully you can get the motor gremlins sorted out.
