Cigarette 38' Top Gun 1990 Silver anniversary edition
Any pics? Is there any difference between this and a "regular" Top Gun. Going to look at one next Wed, wish me luck.
|
After almost 100 views and no feedback, I'm guessing that there is no difference between this boat and any other Gun of that era. This boat will require a transom replacement. Is it worth keeping the TRS w/ Borg Warner trans (fresh rebuilds) and later upgrading with Konrads? Not interested in Bravos, might as well go with a bigger drive if you're going to go through the trouble of re-rigging for a different set-up. Just my 2 cents.... Any help or advice is appreciated, I've been chasing Cigs around for a year trying to find the right one, this is it.

What power/price is the TRS boat? Are you looking for big drives?

Power is 454sc Hawk motors, fresh. I have a lead on some nice Pfaff engines (900s???). If I get my hands on those, I will need some serious hardware out back.

I would venture a guess that it is like my "pro-Series" cafe - nothing but but an advertising gimmick.

I am traveling next week to have a look at it. It's the earliest I could get away from work, the anticipation is killing me. This boat has some neat history behind it. I don't want to give too much away because it's not my boat yet.

My cafe is one of the Pro Series ah ok maybe it isnt.
Frick good luck looking foward to pics im intrested to check it -Mike |

The reason I ask is because I may know the boat. Wasnt LS's Gun an anniversary edition, or Platinum edition, something like that?
Where's bobby when u need him? |
My '89 Cafe is a 25th Anniversary Edition. About the only thing that I know that is different other than the paint on the side stating it, is a small plaque in the cabin saying its a 25th Edition, with maybe a commemorative number.
I can check this weekend if its noted any where else. |

I always thought it was just the embroidery work in the upholstery and that was it. Get a good survey and calculate the whole project and what your time off the water (potentially) might be. For the cost of a turnkey boat vs. a project, there are too many deals out there today that could make a huge restoration not the best use of your $$$ is that is your priority.
This might be around the year Cigarette made only 6 or 9 boats total? Was it 1989 or 1990 or 1991? Could never remember the exact year. Anyone recall? |

Thanks for the feedback guys. Always amazed at the knowledge & history on this site. I'm pretty sure this isn't a Carbon or Kevlar hull. I'll post more info when I go to look at the boat. This project is well worth it. I have another boat in the water to tide me over while I fix this one.
|
My 92 Bullet says " GT1 Group" in the far back corner of the sides. Anyone know what that means? Gonna start new thread about this. Maybe someone knows something.......
|
I'm interested in the math implied here... If Cigarette was founded in 1969, how could a boat built in 1989 be a 25th anniversary model? How could one built in 1990 be a Silver Anniversary Edition?

No that's not it. However, I love the clasic look of that boat. I'll probably go in that direction with this one. I like simple, classic, timeless. Some people may think that's bland, but I think less is more. I leave at 5 am tomorrow to have a look at it, I bet I won't sleep tonight! |
Well ??????:party-smiley-004:

Well.... I just got back, went from Cleveland to Florida in one day. Proabably stay overnight next time, it was a 22hr round trip after all was said and done. This is a typical Top Gun, no special edition. This will be a looooong project but one that will be worth it (to me, 12 mo). Needs ALOT of work. It won't be the fastest rig on the water, but I know I'll enjoy it, use it, and when all is said and done, I'll have a nice boat and the way I want it laid out. It's amazing how much more efficient the new hull designs are compared to the '90 hull design. Faster, lighter, less HP. Maybe in the future.....
I have a plan for this thing, nothing crazy, wave crusher with overnighting in mind. Hey, it's my way of getting into the game, can't afford a twin step Cig right now. I'll post pics later today. |

Frick sounds like me.

Thought I would resurrect this thread and make it a build thread. Transom is being removed this week. Should be done in two weeks. Then I'll get a trailer, pick it up, and bring it up to sunny Ohio to my shop. This thing is gonna be the death of me...
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...0TopGun008.jpg Should I keep the lights in the front or fill them in??? |
I've redone my entire 1990 Top Gun..it was a "Pro Series" so if you have any questions let me know
|
Awesome, thanks for the offer. Here's the list:
Replace transom Repaint Bilge - change color from red to white, by others Cabin - New upolstery, by others Cockpit - New upolstery, by others Outdrives - blast and repaint, by me Motors - clean up, polish, repaint, by me Cockpit - paint, by me (flooring suggestions welcome) Hull - paint (white), by GlassDave??? Boat has 454 Hawk motors w/ B&M blowers and fresh TRS drives. I'll start with these. I may purchase a nice set of 572s w/ blowers in the future but I have to get the hull straight first. I also would like to upgrade to Konrads in the future. Also, I contacted a company about the opaque electric glass. My idea was to flush mount the glass over the lights in the front of the hull so when not in use, you can tint the glass white. I'm trying to convince them to let me help them R&D it. It may happen, it may not, is there any interest in bringing this to market??? |
Take out the lights and glass up the holes. They add to making the hull look dated.
