Classic Cig 36'...Whats the real story?
Hi guys....I am looking at a 1983 36" cigarette. It is owned by a friend of mine. You know the story...it was left in the water batteries died and it got some water in the bilge, only the bilge though. He is a two boat owner and he will sell this one to me for about 10k with a trailer.
The boat is in decent condition. It has a pair of 550hp 502's that need to be rebuilt (I have 2 mechanics in my family so it will cost parts only).....trs drives...and it needs power steering. Thats about it. Good stringers, transom, and the hull is in good condition.
Now, I have never ridden in the boat before. I know that those classic boats need POWER. What kinda speeds do you expect with 550 a side with trs drives? Is it worth it to swap out the trs drives for some speedy #3's? Is this the "widebody" cig with the 9ft beam? Is this hull slower than a hull with a 8ft beam? I see the 35 mistress, and the awesome all the time but hardly the 36. Any Idea how much built?
I am in the islands so I boat in rough water most of the time. I know that there are deals out there but shipping to here is about 8 - 9k for a boat that size.
Here is the HIN if someone wants to verify what i want to decode it and verify exactly what boat it is.....CRT-3607302-1983 17197A.
Please let me know your opinion. I would like to own a piece of history but dont want to end up with a slow pig. Thanks Guys!

36 should be a real wave crusher, and the hull was used extensively in racing in the 70s. Some of the most famous cigs were 36s.
There was another white one in FL which was asking about 30k and looked real clean.
There is a thread on SO iirc about the 36s.
