454 330hp question in 1986 38
So I decided to keep the the boat and now I am thinking about pulling my motors and building some new big boys but not sure of what yet. My buddy has a set of gen 4 454 330 hp motors with low hours he said I can use until the new motors come around.
My question is how slow will a 86 38 be with those motors in there. Again they are temporary for a few months but will the damn thing even plane out with these??
Also as a side note any ideas what some TRS drives in perfect shape with about 180 hours always in fresh water and new sandblast and paint are worth?
Thanks in advance.

I would think the drives would bring about $2,500 each. If you find someone desperate you might get $3,500, if you really want to off them you might only get $1,500 - $2,000 each.
Your boat will plane fine with 330 Hp Mercs, but you're only going to be able to swing 22-23 pitch 3 blade props. It won't be fast, but it will go...
If I were you I would take the time that you were going to invest installing and uninstalling the 330's and get your motors done a week or so earlier... If time isn't an issue you can run them, but your boat is probably only going to top out around 48 or so...

Winner! Unless you are just having some serious boating withdrawls, I would put all my effort into the final solution.
