I just got my props labbed. I'm plannng on testing my 1994 Cigarette TOP GUN with twin 600hp engines using lab finished maximus props this next weekend. I hope I don't get too much stern lift. I'll keep ya'll posted.

Good luck. Be easy on the sticks. Those 5 blades provide alot of "bite". You might be better off (outdrive-wise) with some 4 blades. ;)

It's no fun when you start poppin' drives!! Are they at least XR's???

Okay the Top Gun that is in question here has some preliminary numbers (mind you they are not from the owner).
Full tanks of fuel flat water speed recorded by speedo.....................72mph:party-smiley-004:
Well what do you think this can do with a lighter load and some chop??? I am in for 77mph on GPS.

kreed 05-19-2010 06:18 AM

Well sometimes those speedos are off a bit, so Charlies Top Gun with 600s could actually be alittle faster than 72. I doubt its slower. But, a Top Gun is going to come alive in rougher water, especially with 1/2 tank of fuel and grandfather Charles driving !!!!! My guess is 78 MPH on its best day, right fuel, conditions, air temp, ect......... Hopefully we'll see this weekend!

Well, here is my result!

I tested my labbed 5 Blade Maximus props this weekend on my 1994 Top Gun with twin 600hp @ 5500rpm.
I'm not happy.
Before I had them labbed, I was getting 13% SLIP at 3300rpm, which was cruising around 50mph

WOT before labbed in Freshwater.
28 Pitch/4400rpm/Half Tank of GAS/water tank empty/2 People/68 mph on GPS
13% SLIP

WOT after Labbed in Freshwater.
25-26 Pitch/5500rpm/Full Tank of GAS/water tank full/3 People/68.8 mph
22%-24% SLIP

I hit my REV LIMITER.
The good news is that they are going to tweek my props for FREE.
I hope I can get my SLIP factor down to 13% and still hit 5500rpm. I would like to go 75 mph at the minimum.

Well I would be upset too. I think you would be better off with a set of 4 blades. Sometimes, with less prop slip, you will actually go slower. Prop slip sometimes=speed. You need to talk to Brett from Bblades...he will put you on the right track !!

Oh ,by the way, did finally get the Bullet out of the river and into the ocean. Did make a difference in speed. Although it was flat as a pancake out there, I was able to run with the current at at a top speed of 81.2 MPH at about 5300 RPM. Hoping for some chop this weekend, and alittle more speed !!!!! :evilb:

Kreed, what turned out to be your backfire problem on the dyno? Did you wind up sticking with the tbolt ignition?

Turned out to be a bad Thunderbolt 4 ignition module. Replaced it and not a problem since. I did stick with the Thunderbolt stuff cause I bought all new wires, coils, and pick ups in distribs. Works great now.
