Okay Cigarette experts let's hear what you think
Alright I thought I would have a little fun here. 2 friends of mine have new boats this year and we have been speculating top speeds (also some sh!t talking). Okay the first is a 1994 full cabin Top Gun with 600's Bravo boat and the second is a 1992 Bullet with 525 hawks and Bravos that are being redone as we speak. The Gun is all stock and the motors have about 50hrs. The Bullet as I said will have fresh power with a cam upgrade and is going to be running the smaller pulleys. So what top speeds can these guys expect.:evilb:
|
When you finally get the TOP GUN proped right, it should run between 73-78.
|
Top Gun - 77MPH with 26 4 Blades spinning 52-5300.
I think the Bullet will definitely keep up with him. |
Wow I can't believe 130 views and only 2 replies. Let's here some opions on numbers.
|
Franks lets just hope they keep up with us :lolhit:
Gun around 75 trimmed out spinnin g around 5600 bravo 26 Bullet 72 24 bravos spinning 52-5300 -Mike |
The Gun 76-77
The Bullet 74-75 Both spinning about 5200..... |
74 on the Gun
72 on the Bullet If its not on GPS running both directions it doesn't count. LOL! |
Okay I know both these guys are watching this thread so thanks for the replies. Here is some more info. The Bullet is going to be running 28p 4 blades labbed from non other then BBlades and the Gun has 28p 4 blades on it now but he has never run the boat because he bought it over the winter. Keep the replies coming!:drink:

-Mike 5500 rpm. Labbed 30s gave me 86mph {GPS} on a cool day. so...Yes 28s may be to much. But, I'm sure brett can fix that My Gun runs 76mph {GPS} with 650 a side with Vs |
my gun with 600 hawks ran 73-74 with 25 4 blade hydro's so i'm gonna say the bullet should be around 70-71.
|
Another update the Bullets motors just got dynoed at 583hp. I was thinking both boats would be in the high 70's especially the Bullet thought maybe even 80.

At 583 into the bullet - I think it will be a little faster and defnitely might get upper 70's. Just my shot in the dark..... How's your project coming Frank? |

I don't think that Gun is going to get into the high 70's with "only" 600HP each side, but I could definetly be wrong.

I owned a 98 top gun with 600's in it
right seas (1 to 2s) and cool air the boat ran just a touch under 80 |
Got a preliminary GPS # on Saturday with the Bullet. On the CT river heading with current we did 78.6 MPH. Very happy with that # in flat water. Hoping for 80+ in 2 to 3 foot chop!!! :drink::drink:

Boat runs strong Kreed should be pretty happy, the boat comes up to speed pretty quick now we have to get him off the river and into the ocean and let that baby fly!! |

Yea, 86 is screamin fast. Especially only at 5200 RPM, it had to be higher than 5200. That TS Mystique sounds cool though! Did the mystique handle as well as the Bullet?
|
The best that my 88 Bullet ever ran was 83.0 gps. That was turning 26 Bravo1's @ 5700. The engines were right about 600HP.
A friend had a '94 TG with 500efi's in it and it ran 73 on it's best day. |
I just got my props labbed. I'm plannng on testing my 1994 Cigarette TOP GUN with twin 600hp engines using lab finished maximus props this next weekend. I hope I don't get too much stern lift. I'll keep ya'll posted.

Okay the Top Gun that is in question here has some preliminary numbers (mind you they are not from the owner).
Full tanks of fuel flat water speed recorded by speedo.....................72mph:party-smiley-004: Well what do you think this can do with a lighter load and some chop??? I am in for 77mph on GPS. |
Well sometimes those speedos are off a bit, so Charlies Top Gun with 600s could actually be alittle faster than 72. I doubt its slower. But, a Top Gun is going to come alive in rougher water, especially with 1/2 tank of fuel and grandfather Charles driving !!!!! My guess is 78 MPH on its best day, right fuel, conditions, air temp, ect......... Hopefully we'll see this weekend!
|
Well, here is my result!
I tested my labbed 5 Blade Maximus props this weekend on my 1994 Top Gun with twin 600hp @ 5500rpm. I'm not happy. Before I had them labbed, I was getting 13% SLIP at 3300rpm, which was cruising around 50mph WOT before labbed in Freshwater. 28 Pitch/4400rpm/Half Tank of GAS/water tank empty/2 People/68 mph on GPS 13% SLIP WOT after Labbed in Freshwater. 25-26 Pitch/5500rpm/Full Tank of GAS/water tank full/3 People/68.8 mph 22%-24% SLIP I hit my REV LIMITER. The good news is that they are going to tweek my props for FREE. I hope I can get my SLIP factor down to 13% and still hit 5500rpm. I would like to go 75 mph at the minimum. |
Well I would be upset too. I think you would be better off with a set of 4 blades. Sometimes, with less prop slip, you will actually go slower. Prop slip sometimes=speed. You need to talk to Brett from Bblades...he will put you on the right track !!
|
Oh ,by the way, did finally get the Bullet out of the river and into the ocean. Did make a difference in speed. Although it was flat as a pancake out there, I was able to run with the current at at a top speed of 81.2 MPH at about 5300 RPM. Hoping for some chop this weekend, and alittle more speed !!!!! :evilb:

Kreed, what turned out to be your backfire problem on the dyno? Did you wind up sticking with the tbolt ignition?
