I thought I ready Lily was trying to make more HP? And I saw the engine was out.

I really don't know anything about your setup or what cam is in it now but with the better heads and carbs you put on over the winter the cam may now be holding you back on some free HP.

Also, bigger carbs aren't always better so if not jetted up they may have been running lean but I haven't seen the dyno sheet so I really don't want to speculate.

I was shocked by the new dyno numbrs to say the least!! and not happy about it. We had Bill Cannon do the first dyno pulls, and the numbers were good, maybe to good. They now make 630 hp on the dyno, not the original numbers Bill Cannon gave me on the dyno sheets, plus they were jetted wrong and were set up way rich. Art as going to do larger intake and carbs, but I decided to stick with what I have jetted properly, and they are going to prop the boat and see what happens. I would have thought they would have made more hp with the new heads?

If your cam, intake and carbs were sized properly or maybe on the small side for your old heads the new heads may not make much more power. Each step of the way you find the next weak link and spend a lot of $$ in the process.

Your new heads may want to breath more but the cam may not be letting you. That is just speculation, I have no idea what size cam you have. I guess my point is, sometimes you can't change one thing, you have to change a few things to make it right.

For instance; years ago I had an engine builder spec a camshaft for me. He claimed I would make 800-900 hp with my set-up. We went to the "honest" dyno and only pulled 716 hp.

A few years later, after getting advice from a good engine builder, we put in bigger cams per his suggestion.

On the first pull my engine made 800 hp. Second pull, after a few changes, I made 838 hp. That's a 122 HP increase from a cam change. :drink:

You are correct, and I have no idea what cam Chief installed in my motor, big secret, lol. I do know I need a larger one, because the power is not where it should be!

Crane 651 might be a good one. ;)

They now have both motor,s dialed in and making more HP:drink:, wich makes me happy. They reworked the carbs, intake manifold work, and relocated oil coolers and new oil cooler lines. Now for prop testing and getting some speed #'s. Basicly I bought too large of a cylinder head and it lowered my compression, it should all work out great, and be reliable, wich is what I really want, the motor's are now where near the edge or making the HP they could, but Im happy with the new #'s.

Gotcha, makes sense but sucks at the same time. good money after bad. :(

They didn't suggest shaving the heads, running thinner head-gasket or modifying the head to increase compression ratio?

Yes that what Jim Benny told me he wanted to do, shave the heads, larger intakes, and carbs, and larger cam's, then the motors would make some HP. I am going to leave it alone for now and just run it the way it is. It will be reliable and run consistant #s. I sure I will be upgrading boats soon, so I am just going to leave it alone. We did do some more paint upgrades and other little items too the boat, I will post pics soon.
