I think I'm just lucky with mine. being a 2000 and one of if not the first bagged hull and straight to boot, makes me wonder if there is a difference, I also believe its just plain physics and knowing the boat. any boat has the ability to porpoise at any speed because you are balancing the weight on a pendulum and tabs and trim are the counterweights.

She started out in a 223 Formula that was solid black with a 350/260hp block when she was about 11-12 years old. It was like driving around in a lit piece of charcoal it was so HOT. Then she got an F-223 with the red & black imron #2 paint, & 454/330hp block called "Prime Time". The 95 Top Gun with 500's & Bravo's called "Slow Motion" came next, which was THE boat to be on, or tied up to, when she was in college & had it LOADED with all of her AND her sisters' friends

DAMN those were some good times

I NEVER use my tabs unless the water is rough and I need to smooth the ride, or there is a sea that has the boat leaning slightly.

I can tell you NOTHING was better than that Top Gun, loaded with hot chicks!

The greatest part, was that she had the Gun in both High School, AND college... so being the same age as her, my buddies & I ALWAYS had a fresh batch of her & her sisters' buddies to run around with!
What was an extra bit of fun, was that her Dad always trusted me with his bad ass Egg Harbor sportfish, to take all of his daughters & their freinds out on at night. We REALLY had the boat to be on, when we'd roll that big beast out for the evening. It was more fun than the Top Gun in the evenings, because it was so well lit with lights, and had a really tall flybridge, so you could see everything muuuuch better around you. Plus, you didn't have to do anything besides idle around, & the fun took care of itself.

Yeah, my buddy that owns the authentic 007 Cafe Racer, has the porpose problem if he doesn't run tab. His runs a TRS setup, but the reason for his having the problem, is because his happens to also be one of the very few Cafe's with a notched transom. They only tried the notched transom on a few Cafe's, then stopped due to it not working well.
He's owned the boat since it was almost brand new, so he's really got the touch with it, but he has to start with about 4.5 tab & work them up in really small increments, as he increases the speed. I've always thought trying a better prop on his, might help dillute the porpose a little, but he's so used to being able to deal with it that he doesn't care enough to mess with it.

You know that me and you are cool Brandon, no need to give the pre-post sugar coating. LOL
I was posting from personal experience with my boats and others that I've ridden on. I have been able to make all of my past boats porpoise by giving them too much trim under "cruising" conditions by just over trimming. My Formula and Bullet would both do it and I've been on some other Cigs and a few Sonics that did it as well. There is nothing funnier that watching someone cruise on down the river or Bay bouncing all over the place like flipper! I've never been on one that it couldn't be controlled by common sense or some driving skill....but that's just me. The factory guys all know what they're talkin bout! My Bullet ('88 no notch) was the easiest boat to drive that i've ever been in. Get it on plane and trim it up. I never touched the tabs on that thing. I sure do miss it!! I do get to see it every weekend as the guy that owns it now lives about a mile from me.
My TG is a different story. It took me at least three years to really learn how to run it, but I've got it down to a tee now.
I've got to constantly make changes to the trim and tab settings to get it to run level at speeds under 60 with any change in course. 90% of the time I have to run my port tab at neutral and the SB tab all the way up for the boat to be level. It's on phucking rails at higher speeds. Thanks Art Lilly for the bottom tweeks and #6 setup.

Thanks for the pics. That notch looks so out of place on that boat. It's deep for sure, and I can clearly see how it could make a difference and induce a porpoise. They've essentially shortened the boat and effectively put the drives further back away from the running surface thus adding a good bit of engine weight and drive leverage -- bow lift, dig in, lift, fall, repeat = porpoise.
I rarely use tab, unless it's to adjust for people and gear weight imbalance and/or to combat crosswind. I usually trim neutral to neutral+1 when cruising, and of course higher when WFO, and I've never experienced a hop of any kind fortunately. I don't think I could make my boat porpoise if I tried.
