How does the Gladiator handle above 100mph

i am in the process of buying a Gladiator with 750 Zuls that runs well over 100. I am wondering how they handle at those speeds and what is the limit on this hull with staggered motors as far as safety. It is Enriques old boat so if anyone has any info on the boat that would be great.

OL40SVX 08-22-2010 07:55 PM

I believe that boat ran 108mph.

omerta one 08-22-2010 08:14 PM

Phil's 700 boat was running 120ish. I think you'll be ok assuming you've had some time in a stepped hull.

But that is a totally different animal than any other Gladiator.

wingnut 08-22-2010 08:44 PM

Well I,m no expert by any sense of the word but I have ridden in one on a long poker run over 100 mph at times and I was damn impressed the way it stuck to the water. Water at the time was a little snotty too. It was a staggered Zul /Lipship boat. Just my .02

johnlomant 08-23-2010 07:24 AM

Thanks Guys I cant wait to get it here

cowisl 08-23-2010 09:08 AM

Ktrons old glad (Pudges) ran real well over 100

ktron 08-23-2010 11:35 AM

I had a Glad with 775 Zuls w/full stagger and it handled great over 100! No issues at all. Great boat!

joefitness123 08-23-2010 11:38 AM

The Boat will handle it great..It all comes down to DRIVER experience..

bigdanc 08-24-2010 09:14 AM

I have an 04 glad with 800 zuls/ staggered, very stable over 100, gets a little light in the rear over 110. Fantastic boat, zuls motors are unbelievible!!!!

johnlomant 08-26-2010 08:05 AM

Nice boat, Good talking with you. I was wondering if anyone has run 5 blades on these boats like p5x or maximus labbed

The 36 Glad with Sterling 750's seemed to like P5X's. Was running 29's and around 105-108. Very comfortable at that. If I remember correctly it was throwing blades off of labed B1's though.

Why don't you cal Phil. He built and dialed the boat in and knows it better than anyone else.

Phil can be very matter of fact at times. Sometimes it can rub people the wrong way. He doesn't suffer fools....

Wow.... not the I remeber it. Your first call, I told all about the boat. I told you I thought it was a great deal and the boat was like new and ran perfect, when it left my shop. But that was almost 8 years ago. You asked me about the hatch, the paint, how the boat handles, and alot of other questions you had, I answered all of them. I told you that above 100, you better know what you are doing. I asked what you have had before. You said many fast boats, like I insulted you. Maybe that made you mad. I don't want to see you on your head. You called me a couple more times I tried to answer all your questions but I am busy working in my shop, I did the best could. I suggested to check it out, ride it, and get a survey, I haven't seen it in many years. Then you called and said you bought it and wanted to change the engine hatch. I told you I didn't have one, that you would have try the Cigarette factory. Then you called me and cussed me out for 15 minutes about them and how terriable Cigarette is. You got pissed I wouldn't make you one. I explained I don't have the molds. I'll bend backwards to help any of my customers, but when you bad mouth Cigarette to me, and cuss me, I'm not going to be much heip. You have a very special boat that I built for a very special friend, good luck and I hope it is all you want it to be. Phil

pm203 08-26-2010 10:25 PM

As they say, "there are two sides to every story". By the way, what kind of hatch were you looking for?

A stock one I assume. It has a custom hatch with a sunpad on it. Only one like it now (Katrina ruined the other Glad with the same hatch).

Im sorry you feel that way. I dont remember cussing at you at all. I have a 2 year old son and dont cuse period. I own a business and know what customer service is, in this economy I thought people would try harder to keep there potential customers happy.
Sorry for wasting your time
John

There is another one. It is the second to last Gladiator built.

johnlomant 08-27-2010 03:01 PM

If anyone wants this sunpad i would be willing to trade for a stock one with scoops.

pm203 08-29-2010 10:53 PM

Nope, another one. I will look for a photo.

Best part of that boat is the hatch

pm203 08-30-2010 09:08 AM

Tank,

As far as Gladiators with the 575 style ,staggered sunpad hatches, there was the one that Phil had with the Sterlings, Enriques Glad and Gerry Brewis's Glad. Those are the three that I can think of.

P.S. Check out this Gladiator. NICE!!

He wasn't the one selling the boat to you though, was he?

I'm sure you weren't looking for him to kiss your ass, but expecting someone to work even harder for you because of the economy, when they aren't even the seller, is asking the same thing in a nondirect way.

Best of luck with the boat. It's a really nice one.

I am planning on doing a new custom interior and new scx drives plus a few other custom things and he was my first choice because he built the boat. Not a big deal.

None of my business, sorry for the comment.

I didn't think there would be much you could do to that boat to make it nicer. Keep us posted if you can with pictures of the updates you end up doing?

johnlomant 08-30-2010 12:46 PM

I will. I have some pretty sick ideas for the boat but one thing at atime I need to get the boat proped right first. Those 6 blade herrings are a little dated, from 2003.

pm203 08-30-2010 01:59 PM

When you say dated, do you mean worn out/old?

Ahhhh....I've never seen the "America" Glad. Nice set up. Which boat was it before?

johnlomant 08-30-2010 02:42 PM

The prop technology has changed drastically since 2003 and the newer designs are faster and more efficient

What's up Tank ... missed you Saturday at the Poker Run

Phil ... haven't forgotten about you ... think about you every Jan 25th ... next time in Miami, you'll be the first person I look up.
