VERY nice Top Gun for sale
Saw this on powerboat listings:
http://www.powerboatlistings.com/view/10351 I have seen this boat very close up at our poker runs. Anyone want an extremely well cared for boat - look hard at this one. Stunning in person, the paint is awesome. |

Stunning in person, the paint is awesome. It does look like a beautiful boat but $119k for a 1994. I can not see that boat selling for then $75-$80k in this market. Sorry just my opinion and I just sold a completely redone and painted 93 Cafe so I feel I have decent feel for the market. Hopefully for him I am wrong and sold mine to cheap. |

As beautiful as that boat is, it would be a miracle to find a buyer that would be willing to pay more than 75K for that boat. |
It looks really nice, but it does seem way over priced given that it's not a TS, updated almost 7 years ago, and only has 500's and XR/bravos with 250 hrs.
|
I had my 1994 Cigarette TOP GUN for sale with new 502 Dart Block Supercharged roller engines that produced 600hp each at 5500rpm. It was for sale for over 2 years. I have less than 50 hours on the motors and the boat has always been ran in an inland freshwater lake. I was asking $79,000 and I had 2 phone calls and not one person actually came and looked at the boat. I did not have XR's, but the boat is in excellent shape. If that boat sales for what they are asking, I'll be very surprised. I'm glad no one bought my boat, I decided to keep it. My gain, buyer's loss.

Just to be very clear... I am not being negative about this particular boat. It is an extremely nice piece......but the market has been set and it's most likely never going to go back up. ;) |

The boating industry as a whole may make a comeback at some point.....but IMHO it will never get back to where it was just five years ago. I hope that I'm wrong. Craig |

Keep in mind that we are talking about a 16 year old boat here. Mine is 22 years old. They aren't going up in value. That was my point. ;)

I agree with the consensus. The boat is gorgeous, but it's dramatically over-priced.

Yeah it's sold. I can't believe it. 2 weeks after the ad went up I had a deposit. I hated selling it for what I did but that is where the market is. I will have to make it up on the other side thats all. I am looking at a 2001 Tiger and an 03 TopGun. I want a good clean boat for a great deal. So let the shopping begin.

Inflation is going to hit us in a few years. Historically, it takes about 4 years. Our US government is spending out of control and printing money at the same time. I wish I could do that! VOTE VOTE VOTE! It's our only hope. If we don't vote this SITH government out, we will be paying $10+/ gallon for gas, and make less money. I guess we could convert our Cigarette boats into sailboats. LOL How's that hope and change going for ya! Oh No!, what did I just start!:evilb:

I have a feeling that inflation is going to hit us before 4 years this time around. Remember, the spending started two years ago with the bank bailout, and you can go back before that to the Iraq war and lump that spending in there too! I also think that there's going to be inflation and it's going to be bad. That being the case, we're not fools for owning boats!!! They should be better than holding cash, we'll just have to ship them to Europe to get anything out of them.... I have $140K in student loans, I can't wait to pay them back with a weeks salary that won't buy bread... |
Like BillR, I know the owner, have since we were 10. I've been on the boat and have helped clean it too. I'm not going to comment on the price. I was a Formula owner and I'm not qualified to answer the value of a Cig :)
I DO know the condition. The thing is hard to walk on, it has been waxed so many times even the detailers have lost count. The detailer has a boat lift, several times a year the boat is lifted off the trailer so the hull AND THE TRAILER can get a coat of wax!!!! Price is whatever you think it's worth but the condition is above rediculous. |

Congrats again. Where did it go? And as I've written before; shopping is the best part!
Boat will be in Long Island so I am sure I will see it from time to time. Let me know of any good deals you hear about. |
Frank,
If it's officially sold and the money is in your hands, a big congrats to you and the new owner... it's a beautiful Cafe, by far the nicest I've seen! |

The market always comes back and it should come back good for used boats as new ones are being made at a snails pace. This should drive the value up on nice used ones. The big problem now is banks won"t give loans for performance boats, when this changes i'll be looking for a nice 35 mistress. Good luck on your search Frank.

Very nice. Exactly what I'll be looking for shortly
|
I suspect the guy is listing it for sale to satisfy his wife or something!
Honey, I haven't gotten any calls, I guess we'll have to just keep the gun and fore-go that cruiser you want!:drink: What a beautiful boat, but with avg power there are too many boats out there that can be had for quite a bit more than a paint job cheaper! |
The owners wife told him to sell the boat ... so now he shows her the listing and tells her he has done what she has asked !!:evilb:
|
Time for a new wife, not a new boat

Urban, was your boat for sale in the Detroit area craigslist?

The cabin on that boat looks to have a lot more usable space then the cover girl cabin. I like the boat...
|
He will have to look for a cash buyer. There is no bank out there that will give money on that boat at that price. I just talked to marine loan guy who said there is only 5 lenders that will loan to performance boats and they are cherry picking the loans. This equals good news for buyers as the prices continue to come down to meet lower demand.

Ease up on the wife and price crap. I know the owner and his wife personally. The boat is one of the cleanest pre-owned boats I've ever seen. It has a custom steel ladder-bar Myco under it that cost $18K alone. On top of that, the owner would pay to have it lifted off and placed in the local rivers rather than dunk the trailer; and they would spend 3X the amount of time cleaning is as they did using it.
They have a few boats, and are looking for a CC to replace this one eventually. |

They have a few boats, and are looking for a CC to replace this one eventually. I feel this way because..... 1. I have to agree that the boat is crazy clean and doesn't look like a 1994, but in the end it is a 1994 Top Gun (flat bottom). Frank's (4195) comments are the best here because he just sold his 1993 Cafe for WAY less than I'm sure he had in it and everything in his boat was also new or very clean, so I'm sure he has a good feel for the market. 2. The boat is painted almost exactly like a 2004 T/S Gun listed in the OSO classifieds, so there is another gun ( a faster one) with the same paint scheme. 3. The engines are 500 efi's with 250 hours. In my opinion this is not big enough power to separate it from any of the other mid 90 Guns currently for sale and at 250 hours, they are due for top end refresh. 4. Average price for mid 90s Guns currently for sale is about 70-80K, I even saw one 98 Gun for 68K! 120k is T/S gun price and I think that most people would spend the cash on a T/S. However, the boat is a beautiful Gun and it has been very well taken care of. I wish the seller the best of luck with the sale. Hell, I might give him a call if this lottery ticket pays off. LOL Cheers JC:drink: |

I think the wife comments where tounge and cheek, as far as the price discusion this is what these forums are for. If the owner wants to try to hold out for a high offer good luck to him, unfortunately many of the folks that have commented here have either bought or sold a Cigarette recently and have a good hold on the current market. As I have stated before on here there is not a bank around that will lend that much money on a boat of that year. The owner will have to look for a cash buyer or one who wants to put down a big chunk of cash and still take a loan for the balance. I have put $60,000 in to my boat in the last 3 years and it was waxed every other week and do you know how extra that netted me in my sale......you guessed it 0. Sorry that is just the way it goes. At least the boat is clean and seems to be done right( I really like the boat). My GUESS would be this boat would sell in a reasonalble amount of time in the $75k-$80k range.
I agree, I don't care if you hand wash the boat with nothing but Perrier water, it doesn't add value for the buyer. One good detail job will equal a well maintained boat to a meticulous, overly anal retentive daily cleaned, never enjoyed boat. Asking the buyer to pay for your time and money spent on that meticulousness will not move a boat, particularly at double what a bank "may" loan, as getting any loan on a 94 Cigeratte is about as likely as Obama buying a Fountain gas guzzler and running it aground several times. If I have 120K cash for a boat, and not a penny more, I'd figure I could get a loan for a bit more on a CLEAN twin step with bigger power, or just buy a slightly less clean twin step with the same cash. |

The government can't wait either, they will never admit it but that is the only way out for there debt.Solves the mortgage mess also guy owes 300k on a 195k house.Because of inflation house goes to 400k.He can now take a 100k H.E.L.O.C out and buy this boat.Problem solved. |
