The mark up is so it can be a " Lip Ship" edition :party-smiley-004:

I'm thinking I can build them and ship them for half of that. Will know after the first one is complete everytime I get started I get slammed at work, but its in progress.

winshield question

ok guys new windshield mount is on the boat .had the bracket that bolts on the boat first powder coated white like the hull .i opted for the clear windshield in the kit. what do you do about the bracket showing thru the winshield ?? im guessing paint it on the back side white if this is the case what paint do you reccomend and prep on the lexan .im open to any ideas you may have

carter38 01-12-2011 12:14 AM

Yes you have to paint it to cover things up and a new interior piece for the other side so nothing is exposed. Post some pics.

Quinlan 01-12-2011 07:35 AM

They made a padded vinyl strip and put in mine.
I think it just stuffed in the slot.

Von Bongo 01-12-2011 11:34 AM

Cigs prices must have come down a.bunch. a few years ago they were $1800 when I contacted them and $1500 a couple years before that. I ended up getting both mine from phil because he was a few hundred cheaper and also returned calls.

Amazing what a bad economy does. To answer your question. One I had painted and the other a padded vinyl insert. Id probably.just paint it if I ever do another.

sand the lexan rough with 180 grit and use some 2 part polyurethane on it with a preval sprayer(5.00 at the hardware store) . I use nason, a dupont prod.. it will look professional when your done..............

Kool-Aid Man 01-12-2011 02:15 PM

anyone mind tracing the lexan on a piece of paper so I can get a piece cut for myself.

Paint it. I've got a kit in my garage that will be going on my boat as soon as the powdercoat guy is done with the base. I'll take some pictures of the lexan and filler piece this evening and post them.

Does the new windshield mount in the sames holes that the old wind deflectors used?

No

Here's a picture of the windshield (needs to be re-painted on the painted part) and the vinyl covered piece that goes inside of the bracket. I'll post pics when I get the bracket back and of the install if anyone wants to see 'em...

I believe you have to fill in the old holes with gelcoat.

I know, gelcoat is overkill, but, thats the way I would have to do it. Of course, your way is the more sensible way.

Quinlan 01-13-2011 07:58 AM

The flap hold down tabs are still exposed tho.
But mine is at Vincents and that WILL be taken care of! Among several OTHER things.

Few more...

Quinlan 02-02-2011 07:22 PM

Just got Gun back from Vincents for paint touchup. He took the paint on the deck colors thru the bracket.
Looks Very nice.

Whatever color you paint it will be the color the windshield glows at night, I painted mine blue to hidethe bracket and it gives off a nice glow through the windshield, almost like a weak fiber optic !

Hey guys, maybe a dumb question...but why wouldn't you just powdercoat this backside of the bracket while having the whole bracket powdercoated?

This seems too logical so I'm thinking there's something I'm missing?

jasonmd2 05-23-2011 11:49 AM

I'm getting ready to do this upgrade in the next few weeks and am preparing.

Is there a concensus of whether to just buy from Cig or was anyone ever able to make one cheaper?

Thanks!

Call Phil @ Lip-Ship in Miami. 305-773-3451
I got mine from him a few years ago & was very happy with it.

Yeah I already talked to Phil, but since I'm "boatin on a budget" :lolhit: I want to see if I can save some coin, which I am pretty sure I can...but haven't ruled out Phil yet

Well here's my update for the low down cost of $148.00
Plexiglass 1'x7' $125
7' long 3/4 inch piece of angled Aluminum (from HomeDepot) $15
Barrel Bolt plastic washers (Ace Hardware) $8

Old School provided the template from his plexiglass when he had it off then I traced on to the plexi cut and sanded

I think it turned out pretty good and I haven't really fixed it up yet by rounding off the corners on the aluminum and maybe painting it.

It really didn't take that long to do...and actually I think what took the longest was getting the balls to make the first cut into the plexiglass....LOL

Sorry for now these are the closest picture of it I have...I'll get somemore this weekend

SS930 05-25-2011 06:24 AM

Did you use plexiglas or polycarbonate? Hopefully the later, it would hold up a lot better...

Kool-Aid Man 05-25-2011 12:51 PM

Yes it is a nice place to work on some toys

I used plexiglass....it was cheaper and for a first try I figured it would work....

What thickness plexy did you use. How is it holding up for you.
