Are Older Flat Decks Selling????
 

I just listed my 86 Flatdeck. Had the graphics stripped to make it more attractive to a wider audience.

Just wondering how long I can expect it to be for sale in general.

No Offence at all I like tyhe boat, intersting color combo inside, but I just went thru my cafe new paint frsh merin 540/750 na's fresh 9 disk trannys and rebuilt trs drives and so on if I was to sell id ask 65 Be happy with 50. WHats your abolute bottom dollar and dont forget this is a tought time of year. Id say at that price it will sit for a while. A guy was just asking about an older flat deck thin kit was a 77 20K but not sure about the specs on it. Tanks is right price is what sells it ive learned that on my past few boats.

Long story on the inside. Guy didnt do anything I asked and then took off. Boat used to have graphics until about 6 days ago so it blended better

It's a sharp looking Flat Deck. Unfortunately someone is going to have to either write you a check, or hand you a suitcase full of cash to buy it and that hurts.

If it's any comparison member Harvey had a Mistress with 502's that was for sale in nice shape with a fairly upgraded overall feel that sat for 25k for sale for a LONG time (in fact I am not sure if he ever sold it).

I love older boats. Classics. The problem with them, is there just isnt a huge market for them. 15 years ago, your boat would have been the cats a$$ to anyone in the offshore game. Big true offshore boats were not that plentiful. In 2010, the market is flooded with used boats. Theres 38+ft boats everywhere you look.

Lots of guys dump tons of money into older boats, but the hulls just arent that valuble anymore. I see guys asking 75-100k for 20 year old top guns, when there is a ad next to it for a twin step top gun for not much more money.

Even my 1990 Fountain. It has nice blower motors, ssm IV drives, hull is mint, on a nice myco trailer. If i were to list it, i'd love to ask 60k for it. But real money, i think its a 35-40k boat on its best day in this market.

I have 5 friends with mid-80's 38 Flatdeck cigarettes. All of them are mint, and extensive updates. From ssm III, IIIA, Konrad, and arneson setups and 600HP-900HP engines. As bad ass as they all are, i dont think one of them would sell right now for 50k.

Yours looks like a great boat. I think the TRS and stock 454's are gonna hurt. If you had some konrads on it or ssm IIIA drives and some big motors, it' prob sell at your asking price, but would still take a while. I'd either run it as is and enjoy it, or drop the price in half and wave goodbye. What you lose on this boat, your next boat can be bought cheap, so its all a wash!

Love the look without the graphics. 38 flatdecks are one of my favorite looking hulls, along with the 38 scarab flatdeck. Good luck with the sale.

Dump or trade the current ride and you will be money ahead with the bargain you get on your new boat. When you look at what you can pick up a TS, Glad, or tiger for it should make you feel much better about a little hit on the old flatdeck.

I sold a nice clean 82 Mistress with a lot of updates. Had to give it away after two years. Had it listed for 25,000, didn't get near that for it, but it is gone. Bad market, bad time of year, and old boats are hard to sell. You will have to find a cash buyer. Good luck.

$25K on a good day w/ TRS & 454s. Sold my Mistress last Oct 2009 and had it originally listed for about what you have your 38' at. It sat for a good while. #3SSM, blowers, new/rebuilt Randy @Stelling full headers, Huber 1200's - sold her for less than $30K and moved on to my next deal, as others have suggested. The market has not gotten better since then for older flatdecks, it's probably worse if anything. Sad but true. On a positive note - that 525 Staggered Gladiator is still avail :drink: best of luck.
