Not all of the Gig's had a notched bottom. The late 90's I believe do have the notch but the 80's do not to my knowledge and it made no difference between the two. I've got them on both with great results.

You can use the Merc's also, but the pricing between the two is so close that it really is a coin toss either way. The Herings will let you try/exchange though and Merc will not.
