Installed my windshield today

...and took pics. It was a piece of cake and took less than a few hours. The hardest part was having the balls to drill into that beeotch....Leap of faith!!! :D:drink:

I did take the headliner out in the cabin just to see where the holes where...and to decide on whether or not to thru-bolt the bracket or not. I ended up just using screws and coating the deck to bracket surface with a skimcoat of 4200. I think that it turned out well. I don't really like the fact that the orange stripe that runs up the deck and onto the dash is now interupted, but may get a painter to freehand the stripe on the front part of the windshield. The windshield kit came off of a 93 Top Gun that a friend used to own. I got the bracket powdercoated. It fit like a glove on my '88.

I tried to take pictures of every step..........pretty much a simple job. Pics to follow.....

Pulled the old flaps off, cleaned it up, taped it up and drilled the center hole. Then I put the one screw in the bracket and marked the other holes and drilled 'em up.

Filled all of the holes with 4200, put a little on the deck and a skim coat on the bracket.....and put in the screws. The vinyl insert fits right in there to cover up the screw heads.

The last step was to put some white plastic grommets/sleeves into the windshield and then screw it to the bracket. I used allen-head machine screws. Done!

Hopefully I can find someone to match the color and paint this part of the windshield. I think that will complete it and look very nice.

STRAIGHTPRIORITY 02-13-2011 07:01 PM

looks very good...

sonicss42 02-13-2011 07:06 PM

Looks good, I agree on the stripe. Now I see the advantage of a full cover versus mine locked in til spring with shrink wrap.

Thanks. Unfortunately, as of today it no longer fits :( I guess that I can try to find someone to modify it for the windshield??

Anyway, the boat went bye-bye today and should be inside for the next 4-6 weeks.:drink: Then it's time to go boating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BGIII 02-13-2011 08:23 PM

What a great addition. I think it would look fine if you only painted the white bracket orange to continue the graphic and just left the windscreen clear.

Tom A. 02-13-2011 09:37 PM

Windshield looks awesome!
Any canvas guy should be able to put a "pocket" in for the windshield.

Looks great!

Cool. I think that the hardest part will be to match the color. The flaps had the stripe running through one of them when the were down.

Pics for Chad...

offshoredrillin 02-14-2011 05:56 AM

john Cavender at Cavco canvas can probably do your cover for you..352-504-7937..he lives in edgewater. looks great.

is the stripe on the vinyl? if you cant find the color, maybe have brandon just redo that top section in straight blue. also hunter did your paint right? he puts paint codes under the battery covers, or just call him, he knew the colors for mine right off the top of his head.

Catastrophe 02-14-2011 06:22 AM

So is it through bolted or blind screwed ??

CigDaze 02-14-2011 06:44 AM

Nice. That looks great, Craig.

Read post #1 Corky!!! :D:drink:
I used 4200 adhesive and some big azz screws. The holes were within 1/4" of a bulkhead....no room to put washers or a nut on a bolt. ;)

352 area code= Gainesville, Florida???

Who is Brandon? The vinyl does have the orange in it.

Dave Hunter did the paint on my boat. I've already looked under the battery covers...no paint codes. Do you have his #?

drpete3 02-14-2011 08:51 AM

Looks good. Few points of interest. 1. I see grass. 2. Youll be boating in 4-6 weeks! I dontlike you very much cuz I hope to see grass in 4-6 weeks

10x 02-14-2011 09:34 AM

Craig, that looks GREAT dude !!! Good job on the install. :drink: You can take the boat and cover to a canvas shop and they can modify the top to accept the windscreen. They'll probably just cut it and sew on a lil cup to have the windfairing go into. I did a lil lexan wind break on the top of my windshield frame, and that's what the canvas shop did to make mine fit, and it'll look like the cover was made for it. LOL

Great job, the factory could'nt have done better !!! LOL :drink:

kreed 02-14-2011 09:46 AM

Now that SOB looks like a 2008! Great job, and the windshields are supposed to make a night and day difference!

CignificantOther 02-14-2011 11:12 AM

Looks real good.....let us know how much it helps with the wind.

I need a bracket only, as I already have the lexan cut. Has anyone ever built one or know someone that does?

I've been on plenty of other Cigs that have them. It's night and day. I've heard many people say that it's the best dollar-for-dollar upgrade that can be done as far as making a difference. I'm really looking foreward to this season. My wife couldn't see over the flaps, so it'll be nice for her as well. :D
The bracket looks like it would be extremely tough to make. There has been a few people who posted that they were going to start making them....but I can't remember who it was and it never seems to go anywhere.

lucky strike 02-14-2011 12:01 PM

It works great for the wind in the face factor.
When I had one put on my 38 the boat went a mile per hr. slower.

1-1.5 mph's is what it will cost you speed wise. Comfort-wise? Priceless.
