Idiot light/alarm coming on for starboard engine and not sure where to start troubleshooting. It's a 1995 Top Gun with 525SC's.
It has gone off while underway, about 3,000 RPM cruising, twice. Both times I have pulled back into the I/C and shut down the engine as quickly as I could, both time within minutes. All gauges were fine, nothing out of the ordinary. I popped the hatch and looked all around, checked fluids and all seemed fine. When i restarted the alarm was off and would stay off. Well the first time I added a half quart of oil and it went off and stayed off, but I knew that couldn't be it...way to cheap and easy of a fix
The second time I had to shut it down and restart it twice for it to stay off
Any ideas where I should start looking? I talked to previous owner (Tank) who suggested impeller or water pick up issue, but how do I trouble shoot this? I'd hate to just change the impeller if that isn't the problem.
I did a search and found something that suggested water temp, oil temp, oil pressure and drive fluid level are what's monitored by the idiot light/alarm. The oil temp, pressure and water temp all seemed fine according to the gauges, I guess I could check the drive fluid level...but was hoping somebody had this problem before and could tell me what it was for them or some troubleshooting steps to start with.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated guys!
Thanks a lot!

The next time it happens you have to disconnect the wires that goto each sensor one at a time, then put the wires togther and see wich one turns off the alarm. do you have drive fluid level sensor and start there. keep us posted greg

Hey greg that seems like logical advice...now one more question, lol...how do I find out where all the sensors are? And not sure about the drive fluid sensor...how would I tell if I have that or not?
Boats new to me and still learning my way around it...do you know or can you point me to a manual or anything?
