Prop stuff again...
#1
Well, things have once again changed. Just when I thought that I had the right info, I went a tried just one more prop. This was a Bravo 1 24 pitch. I didn't think I could turn them, but here is what I came up with.
It was very windy (25 mph) and I found a bay that is about 2 miles long. With 4 people in the boat, 3/4 tank of gas, bimini up and trimmed to 7 on the gauges, I managed 60 mph (GPS) at 4600 rpm (running downwind). I think if I had the Bimini down, tanks at a 1/4 or less and alone in the boat, I could get another 5 mph and 2-300 rpm. Anyone out there have an opnion? The mid-range with these props is awesome. At 3100 rpm, the boat is cruising very nicely at 38-40 mph.
I have a Cafe Racer with 465 HP 454's in an 89 hull. What do ya think?

mongo...that can't be...you should be running quite a bit faster than that!!!
Put the bimini down!!
Someone also told me that 3 bladed props are best for the Cafe...but I don't know what pitch. I have 3 bladed cleavers on mine(TRS drives)...I think they are 25" pitch but I'm not sure...I'll check this weekend and let you know whta the pitch/speed/rpms are.

Ah, come on Sean, I like the shade!
I tried a 25 pitch Mirage that had been tweaked to about a 26. Couldn't get above 4400 (still at 60). I think that this is the right prop. They have some nicks and dings. A good pair of 24's might be just right. Like I said, the mid-range is great.
We have a poker run this weekend out in the BVI's. I'll post some pics on Tuesday.
