Man that sucks, sorry to hear!! Don't feel bad though, because the engine on my Mini Hawk shut down + quit on me me when i was running out in cape cod, and then being "talked to" by a very nasty harbor patrol officer when he came responding to my radio call. There wasnt alot of oil in the tank (2 stroke). Upon finding the compression was very very low on one of the pistons, gotta now get the thing fixed, or get a whole new powerhead, which i am not happy about....
Boating has its problems that pop up once in awhile. Boat: Break Out Another Thousand...

Good luck fixing your boat! :)

Cigarettesam, hang in there. I feel your pain. I hope your boat is repaired timely & if at all possible, fairly inexpensive! To clarify, only one drive broke. I idled down channel on one motor afterwards. A long idle!!

Quinlan 09-04-2011 12:49 PM

Last yr at Shootout I broke one on Thursday, got repaired then blew other on fun run damn near to BigDicks!
Point is screw Golf! It doesnt get any better then tearing up the channel on Sat afternoon at LOTO!!!

Did it break after leaving the cove? Sounded like all was OK where I was at. (just inside no wake) Several years ago I was leaving shootout when at mm 14 a ujoint let go. They are right when saying a boat won't plain dragging a dead drive!! 6mph @ 3 grand = a long ride for 7 miles!! Didn't get it fixed for OSS race but it was just outside cove and just idled to and fro.

Hope it is not too bad for ya and good luck!!

After, cruised to shorty pants, stuck around there for 3 hours and blew right in front of backwater jacks cove on channel. Idled back to 5 MM at 1800 RPM...Is your Scarab Red with white radar arch?

Yes, that's my old beater there. It needs a whole restoration. But looking, hard, for a replacement.......and a cigarette is top on the list.

What broke on the drive?

Man! I was hanging out for a bit & had my 36' Envision tied up to the dock next door to your place, house to the north, yesterday afternoon around 4 pm. I thought about knocking on your door but didn't want to have the wrong place. The cigarette TG had just been put away (that was tough with one motor and the awful wind, even messed up a fender on the trailer!!) I'll say hi next time I'm tied up next door. :drink:

I like the Cig TG & recommend it for LOTO. If you haven't already, give Brett a call w/Performance Boat Brokerage and Scott Shogren in Waukegan. I worked with both of those guys & both were great guys. Brett has a 2003, 1997 & 1994 38. The 1994 is an OSO member boat. I looked at the 1997 & was nice. I think Scott has a nice one with no power you may be able to rig & a 1992 maybe. Each have an early 2000 42 Tiger, also. Good luck!

Not sure what happened to drive....maybe upper gear set? I'll let you know when I find out.

mpally 09-05-2011 10:07 PM

What happened when the drive let go? The water was nasty on Saturday and Sunday.

Quinlan 09-06-2011 06:26 AM

NASTY is right, Especially from the 12 to 19 MM, happened around 17-18. When the drive let go it gave a small tug & I pulled back instantly, happy I did b/c rev limiter beeped for a split second & I knew what happened in another split second! I was wishing the prop spun but wasn't running real hard so it was definitely a wish.....

Hope you have no more experiences like that!! I didn't rev too bad & still spouted those same words!

Saw your boat at the in-water boat show when I drove up to Waukegan to purchase a boat from Scott. My wife and I did not buy either Fountain we went to look at, we ended up buying the 2002 38 Top Gun he had. No doubt that Scott has stuff priced to sell, and is honest. I thought the price on your Cig was an awesome deal, esp with the updated power. You will love the 525s.

Is your boat the 575 boat he had w/ yellow interior? I thought that boat was very nice. I couldn't swing the $$ for a TS having two boats right now. I'm happy with what I got and power package. Congrats on your purchase, beautiful boat.

Hey Ryan sorry to hear about your bad weekend...just be thankful it wasn't as bad as mine...pretty sure my port engine sh!t the bed Saturday :angry-smiley-038:

dcb 09-06-2011 10:51 AM

Thank you, yes, the 575 boat with yellow interior, havent had much opportunity to run it - the weather has been lousy.

So that Envision is yours, that's a nice boat!!!! I had gone for a walk, my rehab for back surgery, and was just coming down the road when you left.

I have talked to Scott about the repower boat. I love the Cig no. 1 on the engine cover!!! It takes a 3a drive and I have TRS......but for the right price, I could find a set of bravo's. Will look at options over next few months. I have also looked at Cafe Racers. What it comes down to is I wanna be able to crush waves and still be able to run a fair clip down the channel.

I hope your drive issue turns out to be minor as I know it can get costly. Like I said mine was just a u-joint but it's what the broke halfs did to the gimbles that cost$$

Thanks for the comment on the Envision....it is a clean boat and absolutely SMASHES any size LOTO wave but tops out at only 57 MPH; however, a great 45 MPH cruise. We are going to sell it (hopefully) and get a tri-toon so we can head out during winter months on nice days.

I think Scott just reduced the price to $19,900 on the no power Cig TG. Good luck with your search. I'll shout at you when/if I'm in your cove again this year. I'd definately contact Brett w/PBB if you haven't already about a TG, too. :drink:

36Envision 09-08-2011 12:29 PM

So.....I broke a prop shaft. It could have been worse, right? Still an expensive bummer deal but I can live with it. I think I'm gonna fix it up, winterize & wait for next season.....

Yeah, I have another boat we will use. I need to finish construction of our lake house, anyhow. I've been putting it off all summer!!!
